Martha Stewart is ready for spooky season!
Tuesday marked the first day of October and the home and hospitality living legend, 83, gave an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at her Halloween costume for this year, while reflecting on past favorites.
In a clip posted to YouTube, Stewart also discussed a previous occasion that required some serious commitment to her costume.
“Every Halloween is fun,” she said while sitting in a hair and makeup chair on set.
“I remember dragging a surfboard in a wetsuit up Park Avenue, and I looked like I had been surfing by the time I got to the Waldorf hotel for Bette Midler’s big Hulaween because no taxi would take me with a surfboard,” Stewart said.
As she explained, a photo of her costume from Oct. 30, 1998, appeared on the screen.
In the snapshot, the businesswoman smiled as she posed in a black long-sleeved Body Glove wetsuit with teal trimming. Her hair did appear to be wet as she held onto her accessory — an actual boogie board.
“So, I had to drag [it] from 26th Street to 50th Street. But it was fun. That was a fun party,” she added of the unforgettable night.
This year, Stewart went as The Queen of Halloween. Her costume was inspired “mostly from the coronation pictures of [Queen] Elizabeth I.”

“Halloween is a time to, sort of, disguise, to show off, to have fun and to transform,” Stewart said in the beginning of the video.
“I love transformation, and I think it’s so much fun to become somebody else, something else.”
As her glam team prepped her for the magazine’s cover shoot, she shared skincare prep tips, while going through many of her standout costumes — including the time she went as a moth, referring to herself as “Moth-a Stewart.”
“Halloween is almost upon us again, and I’m thrilled to share this very special volume with you. It is our ode to the fun and festive event, as well all the joys of the early fall season. Now is a time that I look forward to every year, especially as the heat of summer gives way to those cooler and brilliant autumn days,” she said in a statement shared with PEOPLE.
“Come September, I’m ready to go apple picking in the orchard and start selecting interesting pumpkins from the patch to display on the farm and around my home. This year, my editors crowned me Queen of Halloween! As they well know, I truly love to dream up a great costume and get in the spirit. I have dressed as so many different characters over the years — yet never a royal. The final result was fun and easy to make, and feels regal and elegant to wear. I think I’m ready for Halloween. Now my only question is, what will you be?”
Martha Stewart Halloween is available now on newsstands and Amazon.
