Teagan’s father, David, who has been MIA after being caught by the FBI for defrauding the investors of his boutique hotels, also secretly watches the race after tracking down Ella and Teagan to retrieve a flash drive containing evidence of his business partner’s role in the financial scandal. He reunites with Teagan and Ella and tells them that he plans to turn himself in and accept responsibility for his own actions.

Later, Teagan and Josh make amends, with Josh telling her that he is working to become a better person and joking that he’ll see her again as long as he survives his upcoming heart surgery. After Ella returns to town with Teagan, she and Hayden reconnect, eventually rekindling their romance. Things appear to be going well until David returns near the end of the season and the family’s situation becomes even more complicated.

Ella tells Hayden that things are a bit much family-wise for her right now, and Hayden accepts her decision but makes it clear that he will be there when she’s ready. It’s suggested that they put their romance on pause, but the door is open for them to reunite in the future.
