Pia Toscano is opening up about a heartfelt exchange she shared with Meghan Markle during the Duchess of Sussex’s recent night out with Prince Harry.
The American Idol alum, 37, crossed paths with Meghan, 45, and Harry, 41, at the David Foster Foundation’s 40th anniversary gala in Canada on Friday, Aug. 7, where the royal couple made a rare public date-night appearance in support of their longtime friend David Foster.
Toscano, who has worked with Foster since 2017, was one of the performers at the star-studded gala, taking the stage to sing “Feeling Good” during the event.
Speaking to Page Six afterward, the singer — who is expecting her first child with husband Carmen Educate — recalled greeting the couple at their head table following her performance.

The singer said Harry graciously moved a chair out of the way for her as he and Meghan hugged her and congratulated her on her pregnancy.
Meghan also touched Toscano’s baby bump before telling her, “This is the most beautiful time of your life.”
Meghan and Harry are parents to Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. Toscano, meanwhile, is already a stepmother to Educate’s five children from a previous relationship, and says they’ve taught her so much about love, patience and being a parent. She added that welcoming their first child together — a daughter — feels like a “beautiful addition” to their family.
“I know life is about to change in the best possible way, and while I’m sure there will be challenges, I’m so excited to embrace this next chapter, continue growing as a mom, and finally meet our little girl,” she shared. “I’m also looking forward to this new season of life inspiring new creativity, new music, and new ways to share our story.”
“It feels like such a meaningful transition, and I can’t wait to see how this chapter shapes the things we create and the memories we make together.”

Toscanp opened up about her “long and meaningful journey” towards motherhood when she exclusively shared her pregnancy news with PEOPLE last month.
“There was a season of waiting and hoping that shaped me in so many ways, and during that time I originally thought music would be the first thing I was bringing into the world,” she recalled. “Receiving this miracle and blessing of news has made this next chapter feel even more meaningful and special.
Similarly, Meghan and Harry have been candid about their parenting journey; in November 2020, Meghan penned an emotional essay about suffering a miscarriage months earlier, when Archie was just a year old. That same year, they announced their decision to step back from their lives as senior working royals and relocate their family from London to Montecito, Calif.
“They were craving a smaller community and a slower pace — Montecito is very mellow, a charming little town, and the Santa Barbara [area] offers an ideal lifestyle that they’re looking forward to,” a source close to Harry and Meghan told PEOPLE at the time.

Foster was a meaningful part of the couple’s return to North America; in 2019, he arranged for Meghan and Harry to stay at a friend’s mansion on Vancouver Island and “go under the radar” as they contemplated their future.
“I felt honored that I was able to help Meghan there because I’m a Canadian, and we’re a Commonwealth country; we’re the Crown’s. It’s important to us, so I grew up with that kind of sentiment,” he later told the Daily Mail. “I was really happy to be able to help them to find a respite just to take a little time off.”
Toscano wasn’t the only performer charmed by the duke and duchess at Foster’s gala. Britain’s Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas also told Page Six that she found Harry to be a “very kind soul,” with a “kind face, kind eyes.”
As for Meghan, Christmas said she “looked like she knew everybody” and “like she was having the best time.”
