Daddy Yankee is taking fans back to where it all started.
In a clip shared exclusively with PEOPLE from Peacock’s Reggaeton: The Sound That Conquered the World, Yankee takes a trip to his old stomping grounds in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
“Villa Kennedy represents the matrix of reggaeton. This is the matrix,” Yankee, 47, says as he arrives. “This is where the movement came out of. Right here in this project.”
The “Gasolina” singer (born Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez) adds, “When I’m here I’m Raymond. People recognize me like that. This is my hood.”
Then, Yankee arrives at what appears to be an old apartment building.
“It happened up there, up on the third floor,” he said. “History was made up there.”
The clip then cuts to Yankee hugging an elderly woman named Mercedes, who reminds him of the “soup” she used to make him.
“It was so good,” he said with a smile on his face.
“I have incredible memories here. Memories that marked me for life,” he continued. “I remember making music, struggling with poverty. A lot of killings, friends that unfortunately I don’t see anymore.”
The “Rompe” singer then goes around town greeting people and taking selfies with them.
“The amount of talent that came out of the projects is shocking,” he said. “I’m blessed, I love this place.”
Reggaeton: The Sound That Conquered the World, directed by Omar Acosta, is a four-part docuseries featuring interviews with executive producer Yankee, Bad Bunny, Feid, Ivy Queen, J Balvin, Karol G, Vico C and many more.
The documentary “explores the genre’s evolution from its beginnings in the barrios of Puerto Rico to its current status as a cultural and commercial powerhouse in the global music industry,” per a synopsis.
Adding that “the documentary offers an immersive dive into the genre’s vibrant origins and unstoppable momentum, showcasing its unparalleled impact on the world stage.”
Reggaeton: The Sound That Conquered the World will be available to watch on Peacock on Oct. 3.
Earlier this month, Yankee announced he is releasing his first book with HarperCollins Publishers called ReaDY! The Power To Change Your Story in English and in Spanish versions next year. The news of his book comes months after he revealed he would devote his life to Christianity following his retirement from music.
