The Cast of “All My Children”: Where Are They Now?

From Susan Lucci to Kelly Ripa, find out what your favorite Pine Valley residents have been up to since the soap opera ended in 2011

Although All My Children has been off the air for 15 years, its fans have kept the memories of Pine Valley alive.

The soap opera premiered on ABC on Jan. 5, 1970, and signed off on Sept. 23, 2011. (It was later briefly revived as a web series in 2013.)

Full of seemingly never-ending twists and turns in the fictional Philadelphia suburb, the daytime drama centered around Susan Lucci’s Erica Kane.

Former executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers explained to PEOPLE for its 2011 All My Children special edition that Lucci’s character as the focal point “was unheard of at the time,” as she was a teenager rather than an adult.

“She was the first of her kind. I needed to write a character who would say and do the things I wished I could,” AMC creator Agnes Nixon, who died in 2016 at age 93, said in 2011. “Women relate to her because she is speaking for them. And men love her because she’s feisty and beautiful.”

As for Lucci, she had her own insights into what made Erica Kane iconic beyond that classic fight scene with a grizzly bear in 1985.

“With Erica, you never knew what she was going to say or do, and that made her really fun to watch,” she told PEOPLE in February 2022. “She was full of spirit, and people identified with that spirit of her very much.”

A slew of famous faces got their starts and big breaks on the long-running soap, including Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos — who played love interests on-screen and are now married with three children IRL — and Cameron Mathison, who parlayed his success into TV hosting and Hallmark movies. Michael B. Jordan, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Amanda Seyfried, Matt Bomer, Elizabeth Banks, Josh Duhamel and more actors guest-starred on the show.

Susan Lucci as Erica Kane

While many characters came and went in the 41 years All My Children aired, Lucci’s Erica Kane was a soap mainstay through and through.

In fact, the actress got her big break on the show in 1970.

“I loved Erica Kane from the moment I read my first audition scene, and I will always love her. She made me feel like I can fly,” Lucci said of her popular role in PEOPLE’s All My Children special edition issue.

Though playing Erica, who famously walked down the aisle 11 times, was her main gig up until the show wrapped in 2011 — earning her 21 Daytime Emmy nominations and one legendary win in 1999 — the New York native landed other roles over the years, including appearances on Dallas and That’s So Raven. In 1998, she starred in Annie Get Your Gun on Broadway, and in 2008, she placed sixth on Dancing with the Stars.

Since AMC ended, Lucci has continued to act, appearing on Army Wives, Hot in Cleveland and all four seasons of Devious Maids. In 2026, she appeared in Jonah Hill’s Apple TV dark comedy Outcome and released a memoir, La Lucci.

Even longer than her role on All My Children was Lucci’s marriage to her late husband Helmut Huber, who died in March 2022 at age 84. She is mom to two adult children, daughter Liza and son Andreas Huber, and a proud grandmother.

David Canary as Adam and Stuart Chandler

When David Canary stepped into the roles of twins Adam and Stuart Chandler on All My Children in 1983, he was no stranger to television. Canary — who played college football and debuted on Broadway in 1961 before embarking on a two-year stint in the U.S. Army — appeared on Peyton Place in the late 1960s. He later landed roles on both the big and small screen, including Bonanza, The Doctors and Another World.

Of his roles on AMC, for which Canary won five Daytime Emmys, he said, “It was hard work. I loved both of them very much. If there were long periods when Stuart wasn’t around, I missed him desperately.”

After a single-episode appearance on Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2011, Canary’s last credited role was in 2013, when the soap was briefly revived as a web series.

Canary died in November 2015 at age 77, per The New York Times. He was survived by his second wife, Maureen Maloney, son Christopher, daughter Kathryn and grandson Donovan.

Michael E. Knight as Tad Martin

Michael E. Knight’s role as Tad Martin on All My Children was one of the actor’s first on-screen gigs out of acting school. He appeared on the series for decades, earning three Daytime Emmy awards along the way before reprising his role on the short-lived All My Children reboot in 2013. (Knight also portrayed the character on crossover episodes of One Life to Live, which was also set in Pennsylvania.)

Though his tenure in the AMC universe might have come to a close, his career in soaps didn’t end there. The New Jersey-born actor later appeared on The Young and the Restless and General Hospital. Knight also had guest roles on Hot in Cleveland, Drop Dead Diva and NCIS.

Cameron Mathison as Ryan Lavery

When Mathison joined the AMC family in 1998, he had just a few on-screen roles under his belt. As Ryan Lavery, his character was part of one of the series’ legendary elaborate weddings when he married the late Esta TerBlanche’s Gillian Andrassy in 2001. Throughout the show, Ryan also had a romance with Alicia Minshew’s Kendall Hart, a character originally played by Gellar, and wed Rebecca Budig’s Greenlee Smythe.

After the show wrapped, the roles kept coming for Mathison. He appeared on Desperate Housewives, Drop Dead Diva and Hot in Cleveland, as well as an array of TV movies, including 2019’s The Christmas Club, 2024’s Home Sweet Christmas and 2025’s Another Sweet Christmas. In 2021, he landed another recurring soap spot on General Hospital as Drew Cain.

During an April 2025 appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, he reunited with fellow All My Children alums Ripa and Consuelos and spoke about Drew’s villain storyline, which brought up the AMC arc fans despised him for playing.

“The only time I have ever played a character that’s been disliked this severely on soap operas in my life — and it’s been a stretch, almost 30 years — was when my character Ryan tried to break up Hayley and Mateo,” he said, pointing to the co-hosts.

Off-screen, the Emmy-winning TV host underwent surgery to treat renal cell carcinoma, or kidney cancer, in 2019.

Following a procedure, he shared on Instagram, “The tumor is gone and I even got to keep 80% of my kidney 😊.”

He marked four years of being cancer-free in December 2023.

In July 2024, Mathison split from his wife Vanessa Mathison after 22 years of marriage. The exes share two children, son Lucas Arthur and daughter Leila Emmanuelle.

Rebecca Budig as Greenlee Smythe

Just a few years before beginning her years-long tenure as Greenlee Smythe on All My Children in the late 1990s, Budig began her soap opera stint on Guiding Light as Michelle Bauer.

After AMC, she portrayed con artist Hayden Barnes (born Rachel Berlin) on General Hospital from 2015 to 2017, and then again in 2019. She joined her fourth soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, in 2024 as Dr. Taylor Hayes, a role originally played by Hunter Tylo, Sherilyn Wolter and Krista Allen over the years.

The Ohio native told PEOPLE in July 2025 that she found taking over the role to be “really hard,” explaining that she felt “there’s going to be a group of fans that are never going to be happy.”

During that time, Budig and her longtime friend and fellow soap opera actor Greg Rikaart launched the CBS podcast Soapy.

Apart from the soap world, Budig starred in the 2022 TV movie Fit for Christmas alongside Amanda Kloots. She also starred on L.A.’s Finest in 2019 and had a guest spot on Blue Bloods in 2013.

Budig shares a daughter with her third husband, Michael Benson; the pair got engaged on Christmas Day in 2010 and wed in 2012.

Walt Willey as Jackson Montgomery

Walt Willey joined the AMC cast in 1987 as Jackson Montgomery and remained a mainstay throughout the show’s run. In the role, Willey played a lawyer and the adoptive father of Jordan’s character — Reggie Porter Montgomery (initially played by the late actor Chadwick Boseman for one week).

The relationship didn’t just end when the cameras stopped rolling, as Willey celebrated his on-screen son earning the Oscar for Best Actor at the 2026 Academy Awards.

“CONGRATULATIONS to my AMC son, ‘Reggie,’ Michael B. Jordan, for last night’s Oscar win! Such a proud father am I!” he wrote on Facebook, adding, “All of us at AMC knew that Michael was going to be BIG!”

The Illinois native continued as a soap regular, appearing on Tainted Dreams from 2014 to 2017 and later reprising his role as Jackson on General Hospital in 2023. He also landed roles in the films Characterz (2016), Butcher the Bakers (2017) and Death on the Brandywine (2026) and performed a one-man show about “Wild Bill” Hickok.

Willey is an artist and sells some of his illustration collections on Etsy.

Alicia Minshew as Kendall Hart

Minshew had only been in the industry for a few years when she landed what would become a nearly decade-long stint as Kendall Hart, Erica Kane’s daughter, on All My Children in 2002. Like many of her costars, Minshew appeared on the 2013 web series.

Her post-AMC TV credits include Beacon Hill, Tainted Dreams and The Blacklist and Quarantine. The Florida native also appeared in the 2025 indie film The Ashes of a Dream and the 2026 TV movie Love in Storytown, and guest-starred on a 2026 episode of Law & Order.

Minshew and her husband, Richie Herschenfeld, welcomed daughter Willow in 2009.

Mark Consuelos as Mateo Santos Jr.

When Consuelos auditioned for All My Children in 1995, he left with more than a role — he also met his future wife, whom he’s been married to since May 1996. Consuelos landed the role of Mateo Santos Jr., the love interest of Ripa’s Hayley Vaughan, and stayed in the role for more than a decade. While still appearing on the series, he took other roles on shows like 1-800-Missing, Ripa’s sitcom Hope & Faith and an episode of Ugly Betty.

He portrayed Mateo from 1995 to 2002, then returned briefly in 2010. Since then, Consuelos has appeared on shows like American Horror Story, Alpha House, Pitch, The Night Shift, Only Murders in the Building and Riverdale; he had a recurring role on the latter from 2017 to 2023. 

Since 2025, the Spain-born actor has had an arc on 9-1-1 and in Scream 7. He made his Broadway debut in 2026 in Fallen Angels.

In 2023, Consuelos replaced Ryan Seacrest as co-host on Live with Kelly and Ryan, and now hosts Live with Kelly and Mark. They have three children: Michael, Joaquin and their daughter, Lola.

Kelly Ripa as Hayley Vaughan

Ripa’s big break came in 1990 when she landed the role of Hayley Vaughan, a character she would portray for two decades. During that time, Ripa landed roles outside the show, including as one of the titular characters of the ABC sitcom Hope & Faith from 2003 to 2006.

Since All My Children, Ripa has had her fair share of cameos on series like Hannah Montana, 30 Rock, Broad City, Nashville and Home Economics, plus a special one alongside her husband as Hiram Lodge’s (Consuelos) mistress on Riverdale in 2019. 

Of course, her longest-running gig outside of AMC has been as a morning show host. Ripa began co-hosting Live with Regis and Kelly in 2001. After a time as Live with Kelly and Ryan, the show is now known as Live with Kelly and Mark. Ripa is a producer of the show, and she has also produced several other projects, including the 2026 Hulu docuseries Squatters with Consuelos.

Ripa and Consuelos, who eloped in Las Vegas in 1996, are empty nesters now that their children Michael, Joaquin and Lola are all grown up.

Jill Larson as Opal Cortlandt

After starting in the industry in the early 1970s, Jill Larson stepped into the role of Opal Cortlandt on All My Children in 1989 and carried it through the end of the series.

During her time on the show, Larson landed roles in the films Were the World Mine (2008) and Shutter Island (2010).

Larson reprised her role on the 2013 reboot and appeared on shows like The Young and the Restless, Vinyl, Hunters, NCIS: Origins and Cape Fear, as well as films like The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014), Forever (2015), Christmas on Honeysuckle Lane (2018) and A Holiday I Do (2023). She’s also narrated audiobooks, including The Empathy Diaries and The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly.

She is the mother of one daughter, Anni-Ming, whom she adopted in 1996.

James Mitchell as Palmer Cortlandt

James Mitchell already had a decades-long career in television, film and Broadway when he stepped into the role of wealthy businessman Palmer Cortlandt in 1979. The California native had appeared in films like Colorado Territory (1949), The Toast of New Orleans (1950) and The Band Wagon (1953), among several others, before beginning his 30-year turn on the soap in a role that would ultimately be his last.

Just weeks after appearing on AMC’s 40th anniversary episode, Mitchell died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease complicated by pneumonia in January 2010, his longtime partner Albert Wolsky told the L.A. Times. He was 89.

Eileen Herlie as Myrtle Fargate

Like Mitchell, Eileen Herlie also had decades of experience on her résumé when she took on the role of Myrtle Fargate in 1976, which earned her four Daytime Emmy nominations. The Scottish actress previously played Gertrude in 1948’s Hamlet opposite Laurence Olivier and Jean Simmons and forged a Broadway and film career throughout the ‘50s and ‘60s. In 1960, she earned a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Take Me Along.

Herlie appeared on AMC until 2008, with her final performance coming months before her death that October, at age 90, according to The New York Times.

“I started on the show around 1974,” the late Peter White told Soap Opera Digest in December 2008. “When Eileen came on, and we all realized we were going to have our storylines together … forgive me for saying this, but that’s when soaps — [including] All My Children — were really good.”

Jacob Young as J.R. Chandler

Before he was cast as J.R. Chandler in 2001, Jacob Young had already ventured into the world of soaps as Rick Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful, a role he played from 1997 to 2018, and Lucky Spencer on General Hospital in the early 2000s.

Since then, the Washington-born actor has starred in TV movies and appeared on shows like Beacon Hill, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and The Walking Dead. Young also had roles in Uranus Attack (2024) and A Murder Between Friends (2026).

Young wed model Christen Steward in May 2007. They have since welcomed three children: son Luke Wayne and daughters Molly and Grace.

Julia Barr as Brooke English

After appearing on several episodes of Ryan’s Hope in 1976, Julia Barr stepped into the role of Brooke English on All My Children in 1978, which she portrayed for decades to come.

After the show ended in 2011, the Daytime Emmy winner and animal rights advocate reprised her role on the 2013 reboot, which marked her last on-screen credit before she retired from acting.

Barr shares daughter Allison — who had a brief stint on the soap opera Guiding Light — with husband Richard Hirschlag.

Thorsten Kaye as Zach Slater

Before portraying Zach Slater on All My Children, Thorsten Kaye acted in both movies and on TV, including a few episodes of One Life to Live in the late 1990s and a recurring part on Port Charles in the early aughts. Kaye appeared on AMC for several years and reprised his role on the 2013 reboot as well. 

The Germany-born actor appeared on the first two seasons of Smash and has played Ridge Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful since 2012, winning two consecutive Daytime Emmys for the latter.

Kaye shares two children, daughters McKenna and Marlowe, with his wife, One Life to Live actress Susan Haskell.

Eva LaRue as Maria Santos Grey

Eva LaRue has been acting since the late 1980s. She scored a recurring role on Santa Barbara before stepping into the part of Dr. Maria Santos Grey, a one-time love interest of Zach Slater, in 1993.

She appeared in various projects throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, including episodes of Head Over Heels, Soul Food and George Lopez. In 2005, she began her seven-season stint as Natalia Boa Vista on CSI: Miami.

Throughout the 2020s, LaRue appeared on Finding Love in Quarantine and The Family Business and in the 2024 TV movie The Engagement Plan, among other projects. In 2025, she released the Paramount+ documentary My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story, detailing her 12-year ordeal with an anonymous stalker.

LaRue returned to the soap world on Young and the Restless from 2019 to 2020 and General Hospital from 2024 to 2025.

The California native has been married three times. From 1992 to 1994, she was married to actor and game show host John O’Hurley. In 1996, she married her second husband, John Callahan, who played her spouse on AMC. They welcomed daughter Kaya in 2001 and were married until 2004. Callahan, who appeared on AMC from 1992 to 2005, died following a stroke in March 2020 at age 66. She later wed Joe Cappuccio in 2010 but filed for divorce in 2014.

Kathleen Noone as Ellen Shepherd

Kathleen Noone first arrived in Pine Valley in 1978 as Ellen Shepherd and stayed in the role for more than a decade. During her time on the soap, she also had recurring roles on Knots Landing in the early 1990s, Sunset Beach later in the decade, and Passions in the early aughts. 

Since then, the New Jersey native has had brief appearances on shows like United States of Tara and Dexter. Her most recent screen credit was the 2017 indie film A Neighbor’s Deception.

According to her website, Noone’s new passion is sculpting. She had her first art show in North Hollywood, Calif., in December 2016.

Debbi Morgan as Angie Baxter

Debbi Morgan’s on-screen career began in the 1970s on shows like Good Times, What’s Happening!!, and Roots: The Next Generation. She landed the role of Pine Valley doctor Angie Baxter on All My Children in 1982 and won a Daytime Emmy for her portrayal in 1989. She played the role for years, including on other soaps like Loving and The City.

Her résumé was stacked throughout the ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000s, landing roles on Generations, Port Charles, Charmed, For the People, The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless. On the big screen, Morgan appeared in Eve’s Bayou (1997), The Hurricane (1999), She’s All That (1999), Love & Basketball (2000) and Coach Carter (2005).

The N.Y.C.-raised actress reprised her role as Dr. Angie Baxter on the AMC reboot in 2013 and has continued to act since. She’s appeared on the series Power, Our Kind of People, Power Book II: Ghost and Beauty in Black, as well as in the 2024 film Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black and the 2025 TV movie Christmas Everyday.

Morgan has been married four times. She wed her current husband, Jeffrey Winston, in June 2009.

Darnell Williams as Jesse Hubbard

Darnell Williams portrayed Dr. Angie Baxter’s (Morgan) longtime husband, Jesse Hubbard. He joined the cast in 1981 in one of his first on-screen roles. Like Morgan, Williams also appeared on The City and Loving, though he played Jacob Foster on those shows.

The British actor reprised his role as Jesse Hubbard on the 2013 reboot of the show (after “dying” in 1988 and returning in 2008) and also appeared on The Young and the Restless between 2012 and 2013 as Sarge Wilder.

Since AMC, he’s guest-starred on single episodes of The Family, Mélange and Our Kind of People.

Ruth Warrick as Phoebe Tyler

Ruth Warrick made her screen debut in 1941’s Citizen Kane, which kicked off a steady stream of films before she moved to television in the 1950s and made her Broadway debut in 1957. 

The Missouri native kept up the momentum, landing the role of Phoebe Tyler on All My Children in 1970. While she appeared on other shows and in films during her tenure at AMC, she played Phoebe until her death in January 2005 at age 88, shortly after the show celebrated its 35th anniversary, according to The New York Times.

Nick Benedict as Phil Brent

After a hefty screen career, primarily on TV starting in the 1950s, Nick Benedict joined the All My Children universe in the 1970s as Phil Brent, one of Erica Kane’s eight husbands. His performance earned the actor a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1979.

His soap career continued throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s — he appeared on The Young and the Restless, Santa Barbara and Days of Our Lives.

Starting in the early 2000s, Benedict remained relatively out of the spotlight. He died in July 2023 at the age of 76.

Kim Delaney as Jenny Gardner

Kim Delaney’s first on-screen role was Jenny Gardner on All My Children in the early 1980s; her character tragically died just a few years later.

In 1995, the Philadelphia native began her years-long tenure on NYPD Blue, and her role as Detective Diane Russell would win her an Emmy in 1997.

Over the years, Delaney landed plenty of other roles, including on Philly and The O.C., as well as a leading role on Army Wives from 2007 to 2012. She returned to her soap roots on General Hospital from 2020 to 2021, appeared on Chicago Fire and starred in the 2021 TV movie The Long Island Serial Killer: A Mother’s Hunt for Justice.

Delaney wed her third husband, James Morgan, in October 2022, and they’ve had a series of publicized issues in the years that followed. The actress filed for divorce in early 2023 and sought a temporary restraining order for alleged domestic violence, the L.A. Times reported.

Then, in March 2025, Delaney was arrested on a charge of felony assault with a deadly weapon, while her husband was arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence. The charges against Delaney were dropped two days later. Following their release, Delaney gifted her husband flowers for his birthday. Morgan was arrested again in February 2026 following 911 calls about a “verbal disturbance.”

Richard Hatch as Phil Brent

Before Benedict stepped into the role, Richard Hatch played Phil Brent on All My Children, his first on-screen role, in the early 1970s.

After he left the series in 1972, the Santa Monica, Calif., native had a vibrant on-screen career, appearing on shows like The Rookies, Hawaii 5-0, The Streets of San Francisco, Battlestar Galactica (on multiple occasions, including the original), Dynasty and Santa Barbara, as well as quite a few TV movies. He also created Breakthrough Success Bootcamps, per his website.

Hatch died of pancreatic cancer in February 2017, with his son Paul by his side, per Variety. He was 71. Hatch’s last few roles were released posthumously in 2018: the series Personal Space and the film Diminuendo.

Peter Bergman as Cliff Warner

One of Peter Bergman’s first roles was Dr. Cliff Warner on All My Children, which he landed in 1979. He appeared on the show for about a decade, though his soap career was far from over.

Starting in 1989, Bergman began his decades-long stint as Jack Abbott on The Young and the Restless. (He also appeared as the character on the CBS soap opera Beyond the Gates in 2026.) The role has earned the actor 25 Daytime Emmy nominations — he holds the record for most nods in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category — and three wins.

In 2025, he landed his first non-soap role in 24 years on the Apple TV sci-fi series Pluribus.

Bergman has been married to his second wife, Mariellen Bergman, since 1985. The pair share two children, son Connor and daughter Claire.

Cady McClain as Dixie Cooney

Before taking over the role of Dixie Cooney on All My Children in 1989, Cady McClain began her TV career earlier in the decade with appearances on St. Elsewhere, Cheers and ABC Afterschool Specials. McClain’s character was ultimately killed by poisoned pancakes in 2007, though she returned later as a ghost before it was revealed that she was alive, per Entertainment Weekly. During her tenure on AMC, McClain also appeared on As the World Turns as Rosanna Cabot for several years. 

In 2013, the California native joined her former castmates in the reboot before landing the role of Kelly Andrews on The Young and the Restless in 2014, followed by Days of Our Lives from 2020 to 2024. She has starred on Beyond the Gates as Pamela Curtis since 2025.

McClain separated from her husband, Jon Lindstrom, in 2024 after 10 years of marriage. The pair first met on As the World Turns in 2010.

Marcy Walker as Liza Colby

Marcy Walker portrayed Liza Colby on AMC from 1981 to 1984, then returned in 1995 and stayed on the soap until 2005.

Between her AMC stints, the Kentucky-born actress played one half of the daytime super couple Eden Capwell and Cruz Castillo (A Martinez) on Santa Monica from 1984 to 1991, plus starred in a slew of TV movies.

After she wrapped AMC, Walker left Hollywood and moved to North Carolina, where she worked as a children’s pastor, and later to Oklahoma.

In May 2026, Martinez revealed that Walker was dealing with “significant health challenges.” Other friends, including author Melissa Braverman and Johanna Humphries, created a GoFundMe to help support her health journey. 

Walker has one child, son Taylor, from her third marriage to Stephan Collins. She met her current husband, Douglas Smith, in a Bible study class in Connecticut, according to Edmund Outlook.
