Alexe Godin is sharing her take on why she was eliminated from Grant Ellis’ season of The Bachelor.
Following the Women Tell All special, which aired on Monday, March 10, Alexe spoke with PEOPLE about why she felt like she was at a “disadvantage” from the start. After earning the coveted “first impression” rose and the first one-on-one of the season, Alexe says her journey felt like it ended there.
“I think it did play in a disadvantage because it’s the first time meeting that person, and you’re not going to trauma-dump everything on the first [date], especially when you’re sitting on the ground at the mall,” she explains.
Alexe is referring to her date with Ellis in episode two, when he shut down the Beverly Center mall in Los Angeles and they rode motorized dogs, jumped on beds at a mattress store, made an ice cream sundae and posed in wedding attire in a storefront.

In the weeks that followed, the pair never had another date alone, which prevented them from having an opportunity to get to know each other on a deeper level, according to Alexe.
“I feel like I maybe didn’t share as much afterward because I was waiting for Hometowns to be the right time,” says Alexe, who was sent home a week before the final four brought Ellis to meet their families.
Looking back, she admits she doesn’t know if things would have been different had she and Ellis spent more time together.
“I’d like to say that it probably wouldn’t have worked out regardless, just because maybe I wasn’t what he was looking for and vice versa,” Alexe says before reflecting on why she didn’t open up sooner.
“I wish that maybe — I don’t want to say regret because I’m a big believer everything happens for a reason — but maybe I would’ve opened up a little bit more,” she shares. “But I think I wanted to have more time, maybe not in a ten-minute conversation, to open up a little bit more because I think it deserves that.”
“I think he had his mind set on the girls he was really interested in, and it wasn’t me,” she continues. “So I’m glad I didn’t share that part of myself because I’m a big oversharer, and I need to learn to keep some things for the right people.”

Alexe says that despite the “overwhelming” experience, her ultimate takeaway from participating in The Bachelor is to trust herself.
“I think it just solidifies my thing where I said the first night, I was like, ‘I sound so corny to say this: Be yourself,’” she tells PEOPLE. “I was just weird and quirky and whatever. I don’t give up, and he appreciated that. And the fact that the public’s response is the same — I think it’s a big message of just be who you are and it’ll shine through. It doesn’t matter if there’s cameras around you.”
She adds: “That’s also what my friends have told me. They’re like, ‘I love watching it, because it’s like watching Alexe. Like the real Alexe that we know.’”
