A Texas daycare owner could face 10 years in prison after allegedly forcing a 2-year-old girl to bite another child of the same age on her arm.
Jennifer Ann Garrett was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 15, according to CBS affiliate KWTX, and charged with injury to a child, a third-degree felony, per court records seen by PEOPLE.
Per an arrest affidavit seen by KWTX, police arrested Garrett, the owner of Gracious Beginnings Day Care in Hubbard, Texas, after viewing video evidence from Wednesday, Aug. 26.
She remains free on bond, but if found guilty, could face up to 10 years in prison.

In the footage, it’s alleged that Garrett took one child’s right arm and put her own hand on the back of the other girl’s head. Police claimed she then “physically manipulated” the girl’s head by forcing it down while raising the other child’s arm to her mouth.
It’s alleged that Garrett then used her left hand to restrain the child’s arm, preventing her from moving it away while it was being bitten, per KWTX.

“Once Jane Doe #2 bit Jane Doe #1 on the lower part of her right arm between her wrist and her elbow, Garrett then took her hand off the back of Jane Doe #2’s head,” police claimed, per KWTX.
It’s alleged that the girl who did the biting then pulled her head back and “took both of her hands up to the side of her own head as if she was upset,” before Garrett kept control of the other child’s arm and “briskly walked her to the other side of the playground.”

The affidavit does not describe any resulting injury from the bite, but Hill County District Attorney Mark Pratt confirmed that the Department of Family and Protective Services is investigating the incident.
PEOPLE reached out to the City of Hubbard Police Department, the Hill County Sheriff’s Office and the Hill County District Attorney for comment but did not immediately hear back.
