Team USA Olympic bobsledder Elana Meyers Taylor has won a gold medal in a historic 0.4 monobob finish, making her the oldest woman to win gold in the sport in Olympic history.

Taylor, 41, secured her first gold medal in the women's monobob event at the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics on Monday, Feb. 16. “I still can’t believe it,” a beaming Meyers Taylor said after the stunning victory, per The Athletic. “It’s surreal.”

Taylor won the gold over German bobsledder Laura Nolte, per NBC News. Taylor, a highly decorated bobsledder, is no stranger to the Olympic Games, having previously competed in the 2010 Vancouver Games, where she won bronze in the two-woman bobsled event. She then won a silver medal in the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014 and again in PyeongChang in 2018.

In 2022, she won bronze again in women's bobsled and silver in the monobob event, when the sport first debuted at the Olympics with the Beijing Games, per the outlet. The gold medal marks her sixth career medal overall, making her the most decorated female bobsledder in history.

Taylor's 2022 wins made her the most decorated Black Winter Olympian from Team USA at the time.

The gold medalist was met with cheers of support from her husband and two sons, Nico, 5, and Noah, 3, after her gold medal win. When asked about how she felt about the victory, Taylor said, “It’s everything, and it’s nothing — because in six days, I’ve got school pick-up in the middle of Texas," The Athletic reported.

Taylor then joked that she wasn't sure her sons would be awake to watch her win. “It was way past their bedtime,” she said with a laugh, according to The Athletic. “But to have them here and share that moment with them at the bottom, it was really cool.”

Fellow Team USA bobsledder Kaillie Humphries, who previously won gold in the monobob's 2022 debut, finished third and took bronze.
