Tim Daly and Téa Leoni will star in Newlyweds, a new pilot for NBC, PEOPLE can confirm.
The show is described as a "a later-in-life love story about a free-spirited woman and a buttoned-up professor who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship," per NBC.
Daly joined the cast as Tony, who is described as a "recently divorced" man. When he "accidentally" runs into Jeanie, he is "so taken with her beauty and spirit that they wind up having dinner together anyway." However, he soon learns that life with Jeanie isn't all he expected, but he decides to change his ways instead of living without her.
Pam Fryman, who directed most of How I Met Your Mother's episodes and recently worked on NBC's Night Court revival, will direct the pilot episode. Jamie Lee Curtis is an executive producer and co-creator.
Newlyweds is in contention for NBC's 2026-2027 TV season.
Daly, 69, and Leoni, 59, last appeared onscreen together in Madam Secretary, which ran from 2014 to 2019. The real-life couple met on the set of the hit show, and their relationship began shortly after filming started. Their relationship came as Leoni officially divorced her husband of 17 years, David Duchovny, in August 2014.
The couple made their red carpet debut at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., in April 2015. They were joined at the event by veteran journalist Bob Schieffer and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, with whom they posed for pictures.
The two stars are also newlyweds themselves — they tied the knot in New York in an intimate ceremony, attended only by immediate family, the actress' rep confirmed to PEOPLE in July 2025.

In a December 2025 interview with LifeMinute, Daly opened up about his relationship with Leoni.
"Well, I actually asked Téa to marry me, I think, about nine years ago, and she said, 'Yes, let's just wait a minute.' Then nine years later, she asked me, and I was like, 'Yeah, I already asked!' So anyway, we got it done," he said, smiling. "I like being married to Téa."
