An dog found in what police said was “notably poor condition” is expected to recover after being dumped by her owner and abandoned in a Texas alleyway.
The female English Bulldog, white with tan markings, was found at about 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday in an alleyway in DeSoto, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, local police said.
When animal control officers were dispatched, they found the pup in “notably poor condition,” including a severe eye injury. They also found her to be “severely emaciated and covered in both urine and feces.”
Officers took the dog to a local animal shelter, where veterinarians determined she had an ulcerated abscess on her right eye, which will require the eye’s surgical removal, as well as a “significant infection.”
Surveillance footage of the scene, published by KDFW, shows someone in a silver Chrysler 300, with black rims and a “prominent dent” on the passenger side door, pull up in the alleyway at about 6:44 a.m., dump the dog, and drive away as the pup barks in anguish and appears to move with a limp.
Police have not been able to find the person but are actively seeking information.

“No animal deserves to be treated this way,” DeSoto police wrote on Facebook. “And we want to ensure that this individual is held accountable.”
Despite the harrowing circumstances, the dog is expected to recover.
“Despite her difficult circumstances, there is hope,” DeSoto police wrote. “We believe that once the eye is removed and the infection is addressed, she will begin to heal and can embark on a new chapter in her life, one where she can experience the joy of a normal existence.”
