Authorities have identified the California college student killed after a car careened off a cliff and landed in the ocean last week.
Officials received a report that the vehicle went off a cliff on West Cliff Drive near Steamers Lane at approximately 12:50 a.m. local time on Thursday, Aug. 13, the Santa Cruz Fire Department said in a previous statement.
Upon their arrival, crews found one individual — who escaped the vehicle with only minor injuries —and learned that another person was still trapped inside.
That individual, who died after being pulled out of the vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital, was initially only referred to as being a UC Santa Cruz student, college spokesman Scott Hernandez-Jason told The Pajaronian.
The student has since been identified as Alli R. Singh, 19, a representative for the County of Santa Cruz, Sheriff-Coroner confirms to PEOPLE.
Hernandez-Jason tells PEOPLE that the student enrolled at the school in June 2024 and majored in psychology.
“Our deepest condolences go out to the student’s family and friends during this difficult time,” Hernandez-Jason wrote in a statement. “We are providing support resources to those affected by this tragedy.”
Monica Singh-Strohmeier, who identified herself as Singh’s aunt, paid tribute to her late niece in a Saturday, Aug. 15, Facebook post.
“Alli was a thriving 19 year old in the midst of starting her 3rd year at UC Santa Cruz,” Singh-Strohmeier wrote. “She was a very smart, beautiful and loving young lady and will be missed by all who crossed her path.”
Singh-Strohmeier asked the public to respect Singh’s mother’s wish for privacy.

West Cliff Drive is a road that twists and curves along Santa Cruz’s coastline, with dramatic cliffs and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, SFGate previously reported.
An investigation into determining the circumstances and cause of the crash remains ongoing.
When reached for comment by PEOPLE, the Santa Cruz Police Department had no updates to share.
