Tell Me Lies might be Jackson White’s breakout role but it’s not exactly safe for family viewing.
White plays toxic boyfriend Stephen DeMarco in the addictive thriller series alongside his real-life girlfriend Grace Van Patten, who plays his love interest Lucy. The show has been quite the success in its first two seasons, but White’s stepdad Kurt Sutter isn’t tuning in.
“It’s hard for me to watch,” Sutter, who married White’s mom Katey Sagal in 2004, said on the Feb. 24 episode of Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen’s Broad Ideas podcast.
“It’s just hard to… because I know Grace really well because they’re together, so it’s just like, oh, okay,” Sutter, 64, elaborated.
“You don’t wanna watch them, like, make out?” Bilson jokingly asked the Sons of Anarchy creator, who said that was “exactly” the reason why he tended to avoid the show.

Still, he praised the series for having “a great soap quality” and for “doing very well.” He also revealed that White, 28, and Van Patten, also 28, “start shooting again soon” for season 3 — or, so he thinks.
Sutter most likely tuned in to at least parts of season 1 of Tell Me Lies, though, as Sagal, 71, starred in it as her son’s onscreen mom.
At the time, White told PEOPLE that Sagal had advised him to “do something else” when he said he wanted to pursue acting like her — and he “wasn’t allowed to act” until he turned 18: “I had to grow up first.”

While Sutter might not be tuning into the show, he’s getting the rundown whether he wants it or not.
In October, following the season 2 finale, White joined his stepdad and mom on their Slice of Pie podcast and spilled some behind-the-scenes secrets, including that he was told he was “not thrusting right” while filming a sex scene in season 1.
He also revealed that since the show only has one intimacy coordinator, there would be a “sex week” on set when the coordinator was available.
“There’d be sex scenes all day long,” he said. “So there’d be, like, an intimacy coordinator running from set to set because Lucy and Leo were doing it, but then Brie and Oliver were doing it… And it would be like, sex days.”
