Some of the cast of Modern Family have reunited with the show’s patriarch.
In photos posted by Sofía Vergara and Jesse Tyler Ferguson on Aug. 30, the duo shared that they spent time with Julie Bowen and Ed O’Neill over the weekend. Vergara wrote in the caption to her post, “With my American family!!! ❤️❤️ I cant believe its been 6 yrs since the Modern Family finale!!!😫😫 I miss u guys!!!”
The actress, 54, also included a musical treat for Modern Family fans in the post. With the photo of her embracing her TV family, she included the song “In the Moonlight (Do Me),” a fan-favorite (and hilarious) song from the series that Reid Ewing’s Dylan Marshall made for Sarah Hyland‘s Haley Dunphy.
Ferguson, 50, wrote alongside his photos from the event, “I love these people.”

On Modern Family, O’Neill, 80, played Jay Pritchett, who married Vergara’s Gloria. Ferguson and Bowen, 56, played Jay’s children from his first marriage, Mitchell and Claire. The show’s cast also included Ty Burrell as Claire’s husband, Eric Stonestreet as Mitchell’s husband, and Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould, Rico Rodriguez, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, Jeremy Maguire and Hyland as the next generation of the show’s “modern” family.
Modern Family premiered in 2009 and ran for a whopping 11 seasons. It ended in 2020, with the series finale being the show’s 250th episode. During its run, the show was nominated for a whopping 88 Emmys and won 22 of them, including five wins for outstanding comedy series and acting wins for Bowen, Stonestreet and Burrell.
Since the show ended, O’Neill has largely stayed out of the spotlight. In 2024, he starred as disgraced Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling in FX’s Clipped and had a recurring role in 2025’s All’s Fair. This December, he’ll appear in the Netflix film Bad Day with Cameron Diaz and Danielle Brooks.
The cast has remained very close and has had reunions, both large and small, multiple times. In May, Ferguson hosted Stonestreet, 54, and Burrell, 59, in the audience at his off-Broadway show Tru.

Meanwhile, Winter, 28, told PEOPLE in May that she and her on-screen brother Gould, 27, are roommates, sharing a home in Los Angeles. “People ask me about a Modern Family reboot, but Nolan and I are real roommates now,” she said. “So it’s like we’re having our own little Modern Family reboot, but it’s just the two of us living together. So I see him every day.”
In June, Vergara told PEOPLE about her bond with O’Neill. “I miss Ed O’Neill so much,” she said. “I mean, I miss everyone, but … most of my scenes were always with Ed O’Neill. I spent most of the 11 years with him. I miss him so much. He was such a great friend, such a great pillar for me, because I had never really … That was like my first real acting job.”
She explained, “So to have someone like Ed O’Neill guiding you and helping you through a show like Modern Family was a dream. I couldn’t have done it without him and I miss him. It’s been already six years that we stopped, but I miss everybody. I wish that we could all come to … We see each other but not as much as we should.”
She added that the cast does keep in touch thanks to a group chat, though she joked that O’Neill is usually delayed in his responses. “Ed answers like five days later about something, and then we have no clue what he’s answering about,” she said, adding that it’s “pretty cool” that the cast has remained close.
