Camp Timber Trail is set to open at Six Flags Great America in 2027

Six Flags Great America is gearing up for a major expansion with Camp Timber Trail, an all-new family adventure with nine attractions, including reimagined classics and a record-breaking roller coaster.
On Thursday, Aug. 6, the Gurnee, Ill., amusement park announced the new “woodsy-themed” family area opening in 2027. Located within the park’s Yukon Territory, the new section is designed to “bring generations together through thrills and exploration,” according to a press release.
According to John Karjnak, park president of Six Flags Great America, Camp Timber Trail is the “first step in a multi-year transformation of the park.”

Anchoring the new area will be Sky Hawk, the Midwest’s longest, tallest fastest suspended family coaster. Unlike a traditional coaster where guests are seated inside a train car, riders will hang below the tracks with their feet dangling freely.
“Sky Hawk will send riders through treetops on an exhilarating flight that combines thrill with stunning views of the woodland landscape below,” the park says.

Additional new attractions include Trail Trotters, a wilderness journey inviting the youngest guests to hop aboard their favorite animals, and Forest Grove Play Park, an outdoor play area filled with nature-inspired elements for kids to climb and explore.

Camp Timber Trail will also house four reimagined fan-favorite rides. The park says these attractions will feature “enhanced theming, elevated storytelling and refreshed identities” and will become “integral parts of the area’s woodland narrative.”

Chirp Chaser, formerly known as Sprocket Rockets, is another family coaster promising a journey through the wilderness on a bird-themed flight. Crazy Bus is turning into Wilderness Wagon, a rustic vehicle spinning riders in a vertical circle. Creek Cruiser, formerly Yahoo River, will be a relaxing boat ride while Buzzy Beez will become Bee Boppin’, a gentle, slow-spinning aerial ride.
Camp Timber Trail will also incorporate the park’s beloved Little Dipper and Logger’s Run attractions — a family coaster and log flume ride, respectively.
In 2027, the park also plans to roll out improvements across all 300 acres, including “enhancements to landscaping, walkways, guest amenities, facilities and the overall look and feel of the park.”

Camp Timber Trail will be Six Flags Great America’s newest addition since Wrath of Rakshasa opened in 2025.
The ride is the “steepest and most inverted dive coaster in the world,” per the park. The coaster features a 171-foot drop, 3,239 feet of track and speeds of nearly 67 miles per hour.
