Sherrone Moore Allegedly Confronted Michigan Staffer as She Packed to Leave Town After Filing Formal Report: Police

NEED TO KNOW

  • The staffer who had an ‘intimate relationship’ with Sherrone Moore filed her official report with the University of Michigan on Dec. 10, she told police, according to court testimony
  • She then returned to her apartment to pack her things and leave town, which is when Moore allegedly showed up and entered her home without permission
  • Moore, 39, was fired that same day for violating a school policy put in place in 2021 that states a supervisor cannot pursue a relationship with a supervisee

The University of Michigan staffer at the center of the Sherrone Moore scandal told police that she had just filed her formal report detailing her relationship with the head coach of the football team when he arrived at her home unannounced on the afternoon of Dec. 10, a local detective testified.

The sequence of events that allegedly transpired upon Moore’s arrival at the staffer’s home was revealed in a transcript of the testimony given by Det. Jessica Welker of the Pittsfield Township Police Department during a complaint authorization hearing, a copy of which was obtained by PEOPLE.

Welker testified that the staffer told police she “had left the University of Michigan after she had filed a report” and returned to her residence

“[The staffer] indicated that her intention was to leave town after making the report, and so she went back to her apartment to collect her belongings,” Welker said.

As she carried her belongings upstairs and was about to leave, the staffer heard “footsteps outside” and rushed to lock the door, Welker said.

The staffer told police that by the time she made it to the front door, Moore had allegedly entered her home without permission and refused to leave.

Moore then allegedly grabbed two knives and started to approach the staffer, while saying, “You ruined my life. You ruined my life.”

The staffer managed to get her lawyer on the phone, at which point Moore allegedly threatened to take his own life before fleeing from the scene, Welker said in court.

The staffer’s lawyer called 911. An hour later, officers tracked down Moore and booked him into custody.

In interviews with law enforcement, both the staffer and Moore acknowledged that they had been in an “intimate relationship,” which Moore said lasted “approximately two years,” Welker testified.

Moore is currently married. He and his wife, Kelli Moore, have three young daughters.

Moore was terminated for allegedly violating a policy the University of Michigan put in place in 2021 that strongly discourages intimate relationships between a supervisor and a supervisee.

That policy does not outright ban those relationships, but does state that the supervisor cannot initiate the relationship, and that they must immediately disclose the relationship to their supervisor so that a management plan can be put in place in order to “maintain a workplace that is inclusive and free from abuse of power, coercion, sexually harassing conduct and favoritism.”

Shortly after leaving the staffer’s home, Moore was arrested by police and booked into the county jail.

On Dec. 12, Moore was arraigned on one felony and two misdemeanor counts: third-degree home invasion, stalking and breaking and entering. The home invasion is the felony charge, and stalking and breaking and entering are both misdemeanor charges.

Moore posted bail that same day and will now have to wear a GPS tether and continue to receive mental health treatment, as conditions of his release. He is also prohibited from having any contact with the staffer.

He is due back in court on Jan. 22, 2026, for a probable cause hearing and is now out of a job, and the $12.3 million guaranteed by his contract over the next three years.

Moore is not charged with assaulting the staffer and has denied ever assaulting or making threats towards her in the past.

The staffer’s lawyer and Moore’s lawyer did not respond to requests for comment.
