See how Antonio Banderas has transformed from a young Spanish actor into one of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars.

Antonio Banderas was born on August 10, 1960, in Málaga, Spain. As a teenager, he began showing an interest in the arts and acting. He pursued a career in theater and performed with the Spanish National Theatre before gaining recognition through his work with director Pedro Almodóvar. In 1991, he appeared in Madonna‘s documentary Truth or Dare before making his English-language film debut in The Mambo Kings in 1992. He went on to star in Philadelphia, Desperado, Assassins with Sylvester Stallone and Evita with Madonna. In 1998, he took on one of his most iconic roles in The Mask of Zorro opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Antonio continued his successful career with roles in the Spy Kids and Shrek franchises, voicing fan-favorite Puss in Boots in the latter. His acclaimed performance in 2019’s Pain and Glory earned him his first Academy Award nomination.

The actor notably married Melanie Griffith in 1996 after meeting on the set of Two Much, and they welcomed daughter Stella Banderas later that year. The couple separated in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2015, but have remained close. Antonio has been in a relationship with Dutch entrepreneur Nicole Kimpel since 2014.
