A security guard at a Georgia bar was shot and killed while attempting to break up a fight between a man and a woman, local police said.
Jordan Alexander Jones, 28, of Lawrenceville, Ga., was fatally shot at around 2:42 a.m. local time as he attempted to stop the fight, the Acworth Police Department said in a press release.
Upon arrival at the scene, APD officers "located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound," per the press release. "Officers immediately began rendering aid until Cobb County Fire and Metro EMS arrived on scene. The victim was transported to Kennestone Hospital, where he later died from his injuries," the APD added.
The police department said it contacted Jones' family, adding that it "extends its condolences to the family during this difficult time."
Officers identified Daniel Di Vonne Parsons of Douglasville, Ga., as the suspect in the shooting, alleging that the 25-year-old, "had been involved in a fight prior to the shooting."
"During the altercation, the victim attempted to break up the fight when the suspect retrieved a firearm and shot the victim. The suspect was later located on foot near the scene on Baker Road and was taken into custody without incident," APD said in the release.
Parsons has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and aggravated murder, according to the press release. APD noted that the investigation into Jones' death remains ongoing.
Parsons is currently being held without bail at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records reviewed by PEOPLE.

Jones' uncle, Edward Jones, remembered his nephew as someone who would typically step in when "he sees something wrong."
"He’s not gonna just let it happen, watch others on while they tape it,” Edward told local outlet WSB-TV. “So he stepped in, and just said, you know, he was not violent with the guy, you know? He simply grabbed him, an old bear hug, and put him to the side.”

Following the deadly shooting, Saddle Bar issued a statement on social media. "The Saddlebar team is heartbroken to share tragic news with our community," the statement began. Earlier this morning, after Saddlebar was closed for the night, an incident took place behind the venue in the parking lot."
"One of the security guards working at the venue courageously intervened … After successfully breaking up the altercation and stepping away, the security guard was tragically shot in the back," the bar wrote.
It went on to praise the victim as "a brave individual who put himself in harm's way to protect someone else." The venue acknowledged "his courage and selflessness," stating that those attributes "will not be forgotten."
"Our deepest prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to his family, loved ones, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him," the bar continued. It noted that it was closed for the weekend.

The Saddle Bar also condemned violence and reassured patrons, "Our deepest desire has always been for Saddlebar to be a positive beacon in the community and a place where people can gather safely."
"While this tragedy occurred during an unforeseeable act of violence, we take the safety of our guests, staff, and community extremely seriously," the statement added before thanking the Acworth Police Department, Acworth Fire Department, and EMS for their swift response.
Saddle Bar also announced it would make a donation to "support his family during this incredibly difficult time."
"We ask the community to keep his family in your prayers. His bravery will not be forgotten," the statement concluded.
