NEED TO KNOW

  • Sean “Diddy” Combs’ prison release date has been moved to Feb. 20, 2028, after multiple changes
  • The music mogul is serving a 50-month sentence for prostitution-related charges and is appealing his conviction
  • Combs is participating in a drug-abuse rehabilitation program at FCI Fort Dix, which can reduce his sentence

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ prison release date has been changed.

On Tuesday, Aug. 4, the Federal Bureau of Prisons shared an update noting that the disgraced music mogul, 56, is now set to be released from New Jersey’s FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal facility, on Feb. 20, 2028.

The Bad Boy Records founder has had his release date changed several times, with the Federal Bureau of Prisons listing his release dates as April 15, 2028, April 25, 2028 and June 4, 2028, in the past.

In June, his release date was moved to Feb. 23, 2028.

There has been no explanation for the multiple release dates.

Combs’ legal team declined PEOPLE’s request for comment. PEOPLE reached out to FCI Fort Dix for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

The “Last Night” artist is serving a 50-month sentence after being convicted last summer on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution following a federal trial in New York. Jurors acquitted him of more serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.

Combs is participating in a drug-abuse rehabilitation program at FCI Fort Dix, while his legal team continues to appeal his conviction and sentence, calling the punishment excessive and seeking acquittal or resentencing.

In July, Combs was reportedly involved in a physical altercation with another inmate that resulted in the businessman being placed in solitary confinement.

At the time, TMZ reported that the fight started when the other inmate, whose identity was not made public, insulted the rapper. However, prison staff quickly intervened and separated both men, the outlet stated.

Diddy reportedly requested to serve his two and a half years at FCI Fort Dix in order to be closer to his family. The approximately 14 months he spent at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., after his arrest counted as time served, ABC News previously reported.

“In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix,” attorney Teny Geragos wrote in an October 2025 court filing.

Participating in a Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program (RDAP) can reduce an inmate’s sentence by up to a year, according to the Bureau of Prisons.

Also on Tuesday, Aug. 4, the judge in Combs’ case signed an order to authorize federal authorities to take possession or dispose of items seized from the Park Hyatt Hotel, where Combs was taken into custody in September 2024. According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, the list of items includes $9,000 in cash and multiple iPads, iPhones, laptops and hard drives.

At his sentencing in November 2025, Combs claimed he was “sober for the first time in 25 years” and blamed his past actions on drug usage, according to CBS News.

“Prison will change you or kill you,” he wrote in his sentencing memo, “I choose to live.”
