“In Coiled, we get to see more of the mafia-esque world Zahariev built, his dealings and connections throughout Eden and the secrets he has been keeping,” St. Clair explains to PEOPLE. “It is such a heart-pounding, gritty backdrop for Lilith’s journey of self-discovery. The entire book just feels like a dark, grand adventure.”

St. Clair previously told PEOPLE about writing the Blood of Lilith series. The author described Terror at the Gates as a retelling of the legend of Lilith, a figure in Jewish and Sumerian mythology. It was important for her to center a character "seeking autonomy and sovereignty in a world that does not value her.”
“I think Lilith has endured and evolved over time because of what she had come to represent,” St. Clair said. “Everyone can relate to the feeling of being an outcast. We find empowerment in the idea of being ourselves despite social expectation.”
