Scarlett Johansson in Talks to Move from Marvel to DC for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman 2

Scarlett Johansson is in talks to join the cast of Robert Pattinson’s second Batman movie, PEOPLE confirms.

The Batman Part II will pick up after the events in the 2022 movie directed by Matt Reeves and starring Pattinson, 39, as Bruce Wayne/Batman. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johansson is in “final negotiations” to join the film. Details of her role haven’t been disclosed.

Zoë Kravitz, who starred as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Batman, is not expected to return for the sequel, Variety reported.

PEOPLE has reached out to representatives for DC Studios, Warner Bros. and Johansson for comment.

Johansson is no stranger to comic book movies, having starred as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She debuted as the character in 2010’s Iron Man 2 and made her final appearance as the fan-favorite character 11 years later in the standalone film Black Widow. Johansson, an Oscar nominee for her performances in Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit, also served as an executive producer on the 2021 movie.

Plot details for The Batman Part II remain under wraps. The film has been in development since The Batman hit theaters and will be written by Reeves, 59, and Mattson Tomlin. In August, Warner Bros. announced that filming for Part II will begin in spring 2026. It is scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 1, 2027, more than five years after The Batman opened. 

The Batman, which is set in a different universe from James Gunn’s Superman, also starred Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobb/The Penguin. Farrell, 49, reprised the role in HBO Max’s The Penguin series.

Johansson was last seen in this summer’s blockbuster hit Jurassic World Rebirth and had a supporting role in The Phoenician Scheme. She also made her directorial debut with the June Squibb-starring Eleanor the Great. Her next films include Ray Gunn and Paper Tiger. 

Johansson will soon star in a new take on The Exorcist from filmmaker Mike Flanagan (The Life of Chuck, The Haunting of Hill House), Deadline reported in November. The new project is set in the Exorcist universe and will be produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment and Flanagan.
