The wait is over — new ACOTAR books are on the way!
Sarah J. Maas, bestselling author of the smash-hit romantasy series A Court of Thrones and Roses, announced the highly-anticipated sixth and seventh books in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, during an appearance on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast on March 4.
Maas revealed the debut of the sixth ACOTAR book is just months away: fans can finally continue the series on Oct. 27, Maas said.
"I've been working and working on that. It's been a long time coming," Maas told Cooper. She added, "It took me a while to find the right story and to be in the right head space."

The author shared that the story came to her during the summer when she was in Big Sky, Mont., and somehow the location helped her lock into writing the sixth book. There, something "clicked" for Maas, and the story just "poured" out of her, she said.
Maas declined to share any details about the sixth book's point of view, but revealed the length of the forthcoming sixth book is "tricky to talk about" because, just months later, readers are also getting the seventh ACOTAR book.
"The story that was finally ready to come out of me was big — really, really, really big. And as I started writing this … it came out of me in a way that surprised me," Maas shared. "And by the time I reached the end of part one, it was like 400 pages long."
Maas noted she gave the characters and story the space they demanded. But, she added, there are certain logistical problems with writing a single volume that long: "the glue will not hold the books together," she said.
So. the author decided the best approach was to abandon the "traditional format" and tell her story across three separate volumes, containing four parts total. The sixth book, out in October, is effectively the first part; the seventh book will contain parts two and three; and, Maas revealed, there is a third — still unwritten — book on the horizon that will feature the fourth and final part.
"It's meant to be read ideally as one massive, massive story as opposed to like, in a trilogy," Maas said. "It's not a trilogy. Like arcs aren't wrapped up."

She added, "I've never told a story that way. This is how it wants to come out. Why do I have to be held back by the realities of the glue that we need to hold the pages in, or just like placement on a shelf?"
The author noted she felt a certain obligation to deliver her story to readers in a timely fashion. She didn't want to publish part one, and then have readers wait another year for the second installment.
"I want that in everyone's hands," she said."And so that's why we're doing this back-to-back release. So there's going to be a lot of ACOTAR in a very short time."
Following her appearance on Call Her Daddy, Maas shared the news on her Instagram and thanked her readers for waiting patiently for the next novel in the series. "THANK YOU for never letting this world fade," she wrote in the caption.
