Sara Bareilles made a shocking discovery behind a small, unopened door inside her home, and she gave her Instagram followers a first look at what she found.
“When you live in the country and you open a door, because it’s always been closed every time before. And you see some stuff falling out you think, maybe I should see what’s inside,” the 46-year-old Grammy winner sings in a March 18 Instagram Reel.
“And it’s a skull, and it’s a skull,” she continues. “It’s the bones of a maggot-filled skull.”
After opening the door, the musician revealed a mixture of black soot and dirt combined with what appears to be the carcasses of dead animals.

“I don’t know what this thing is, it’s a giant dragon,” she sings. “What the f—, what the f—?”
The video then cuts to another clip of the Waitress star standing outside the opening with a paper grocery bag on the ground as she starts putting on a pair of gloves. She goes on to explain that in her time living in the home, she’s never been able to get the mysterious door open. However, she decided to investigate after finding “all this s— on the floor.”
She then provided another “peak” at the mess, calling it a “carcass and remains of some kind of giant rodent.” But her best guess is a raccoon.
In another clip, which she calls “chapter two,” Bareilles began removing the remnants with a garden shovel.
“This body is big, it’s like a turkey,” she says before screaming. “Oh my god, it’s like birthing itself backwards. There’s multiples. It’s multiple things.”

With enough courage, Bareilles was able to scoop the carcasses out of the opening and into her bag to dispose of. “That was traumatic,” she says simply.
“I’ve been watching a lot of Alone, I won’t give any spoilers, but you got to be tough,” she says. “If one of those contestants had encountered this, they would have boiled the bones.”
She then shared that she would give the creatures a “little blessing” and send them back into nature, even though they are “very dead.”
In the comment section, some notable followers were sure to share their thoughts on the experience.
“‘It’s a skull. It’s a skull’ I’m nominating this for a Grammy after I finish barfing,” Katie Couric wrote.
“I would’ve just moved,” added Wanda Sykes.

Even Bareilles’ Girls5eva costar Busy Philipps took to her Instagram Stories to share a laugh about the unexpected discovery.
“It is so vile, and I am laughing and screaming watching it,” she says in the video, which Bareilles reposted. “This is the worst HGTV show I’ve ever seen in my life. I don’t know what to say except, ‘Oh my god, she’s braver than I am.’ ”
