Rose Byrne might have to name her new pet bearded dragon “Oscar.”
The 46-year-old actress received her first Oscar nomination on Thursday, Jan. 22, while it was the middle of the night in Sydney, Australia.
“I know, I sound like I’m on drugs. I’m not, I’m just real tired,” the If I Had Legs I’d Kick You star said while calling in to Today with Jenna & Sheinelle at 2 a.m. local time. “I went to bed late, and then Bobby [Cannavale] called me, and my parents came in. It was so amazing. It’s just, like, so crazy. It’s so surreal. It’s such an honor.”
Referencing Byrne’s Golden Globes acceptance speech from earlier this month, co-host Sheinelle Jones asked the actress how her new bearded dragon has been.
“He’s so sweet. He’s so sweet,” she gushed. “We’re all smitten. The kids are happy, such a sweetie.”

Noting that the family, including partner Bobby Cannavale and sons Rocco and Rafael, was “undecided” on a name for their newest addition.
“Well, maybe you can name him Oscar,” co-host Jenna Bush Hager suggested, to which Byrne replied, “Perfect, done!”

Byrne was nominated in the Best Actress category for her role in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. She’s up against Hamnet’s Jessie Buckley, Song Sung Blue’s Kate Hudson, Sentimental Value’s Renate Reinsve, and Bugonia’s Emma Stone.
“The women are incredible in this category,” Byrne shared. “I feel like I’m the naughty kid that snuck in the back of the bus. I can’t believe it.”

Earlier this month, Byrne made headlines during her Golden Globes acceptance speech when she shared Cannavale’s reason for not attending the award show.
“I want to thank my husband, Bobby Cannavale,” she said. “He couldn’t make it here because we’re getting a bearded dragon, and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey. So, thank you, baby.”
Reacting to the Oscar nomination news on Thursday, Byrne released a statement to PEOPLE.
“I am speechless and beyond honored to be amongst this extraordinary group of women: Jessie, Renate, Kate, and Emma,” Byrne shared. “This is a radical film and was the gift of a lifetime to play Linda. I am so humbled to be recognized by the Academy for this punk rock film and to be included amongst the astounding performances this year. This recognition is beyond my wildest dreams, and I share this with Mary Bronstein.”
