A decade after Pink Floyd cofounder Roger Waters fired his own son Harry from his touring band, he’s speaking out to help recruit a singer for Harry’s new Pink Floyd tribute band.
Waters, 82, put out an open call for a singer that can sound like he did in his heyday to join the Harry Waters Band as they play a show titled Legacy: A Pink Floyd Show.
“My son @harrywatersmusic has put a great band and show together to go on the road next year to pay tribute to the music from the golden era of @pinkfloyd and maybe a couple of songs from my subsequent solo career,” Waters wrote on Instagram. “Harry’s band is missing one thing. The voice I had when I was young.”
Waters said Harry, 49, is in search of a lead vocalist able to sing everything from the “soft urgency” heard on “Comfortably Numb” to the “high-pitched scream” in “Don’t Leave Me Now.”

“Can you do that? Are you that missing voice? If you are, this is your chance,” he wrote. “This is an open invitation to audition for Harry’s band. I’m serious.”
Harry echoed the call on his own social media, writing he was “looking for a singer who can sound like Dad did when he was young.”
Harry’s decision to take his dad’s music on the road comes 10 years after Waters abruptly fired his son from his touring band, where he played keyboard and organ, after 14 years of working together.
“I was fired. It was pretty miserable,” Harry told Rolling Stone in 2023. “I think he just wanted a change of blood, something new, something fresh. I’m not sure of his exact reasoning, but everyone except two people got fired. But the other guys that got the sack weren’t his son, so it was doubly hurtful for me.”

Harry, whom Waters shares with ex-wife Carolyne Christie, also recalled being in the studio when Pink Floyd recorded The Wall in the late 1970s. A young Harry can be heard speaking on “Goodbye Blue Sky.”
In his chat with Rolling Stone recounting his firing, Harry said he and his dad remained in each other’s lives, but their musical future together was uncertain.
“I’m not hoping [to return]. I don’t imagine it’ll happen again, but maybe,” he said. We’ll see."
