Robert Irwin had no issue trading the bright lights and loud noises of Los Angeles for the wilderness vibes he’s known and grown accustomed to for most of his life.
After he won the latest season of Dancing with the Stars, which films in the glitzy West Coast city, the conservationist, 22, admitted in an interview with The West Australian that he was happy to return to a more rugged terrain soon after.
“Being in L.A. for the last three months has been wonderful, but I am not a city kid,” Irwin said. “I live out in the bush and have grown up there, so it’s good to be back where there’s a bit of greenery.”
While he is not currently in his home country of Australia, Irwin is enjoying time spent in South Africa, as he films a new season of I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!
“I couldn’t wait to get here, actually,” he told The West Australian, reiterating his desire to relocate away from a more urban location.

Robert grew up and typically resides in Australia alongside his mother, Terri Irwin, and his sister, Bindi Irwini, as well as her husband, Chandler Powell, and their daughter, Grace Warrior.
Together, the family carries on patriarch Steve Irwin’s mission through their work at Australia Zoo, where they help rehabilitate wildlife and teach others about the natural world. (Steve died at the age of 44 after being attacked by a stingray while filming in the Batt Reef off the coast of Australia in 2006.)
Back in September, Robert told Travel + Leisure that Australia is a place that always makes him feel connected to his late father. “It is where I feel his energy and his passion more than anywhere else,” he explained.
Added Robert: “If Australia were a person, it would be my dad. To love your wildlife, to be passionate, to have that spirit of mateship and camaraderie with everyone. He is just a superhero to me.”

Robert and Witney Carson were awarded the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy during the season 34 finale of DWTS in November.
His victory came almost 10 years after sister Bindi, 27, claimed the title alongside her pro partner, Derek Hough.
Speaking with PEOPLE after his win, Robert said achieving the same accolade as his older sibling meant “everything to him,” adding, “This has absolutely changed my life.”
Robert teased his involvement with I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!, which he’s been co-hosting since 2023 alongside Julia Morris, in a Jan. 11 Instagram post. He told fans, “This season, we are changing things, we’re upping the ante. Making a bit of a plan right now.”
The latest season of I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! is now airing on Network 10 in Australia. The next season of Dancing with the Stars will premiere later in 2026.
