Karen Huger is sharing the meaning behind her “jailhouse braids.”
In a sneak peek at the latest episode titled “Karen Comes Home,” the Real Housewives of Potomac star, 62, reunited with her loved ones. The star was released early from prison in September after being found guilty of driving while intoxicated.
When her family — including her daughter Rayvin, husband Ray Huger and sister Bridget — comments on her appearance, Karen explains that her braided hairstyle was done by fellow prisoners.
“The girls insisted I do jailhouse braids,” she says. “So what they did was they took their extensions out of their hair, and they braided my hair, and I think it’s so beautiful.
Karen elaborates, “They took their hair out they head, and they were like, ‘Miss Karen, we gotta get you together,’ and I’m like, ‘What a beautiful thought.'”
Before her arrival, Karen’s family decorated the home with balloons, flowers and a “welcome home” sign. Rayvin gave her a hug when she walked in the door, followed by the rest of her family who surrounded her.
“I told you this too shall pass,” Bridget tells her sister.

“I just wanted to get home to see you guys,” Karen tells her family, before looking to her daughter and sharing a message just for her.
“And I want to say something to you. I couldn’t have done it,” she says. “I couldn’t have done it without you. I love the woman that you’ve become. I never intended for you to see me like that, but I’m glad you did. Because there’s a truth and a strength in that.”
Karen then turns to Bridget and applauds her for having “stepped in.” As for her husband, Karen tells Ray it was “fun dating you” through a “glass window.”
“I got my hands on them,” she adds of some of the young women who were in prison with her. “I was able to reach a few of them. I was like, ‘It took me six decades to get here. Why are you here at 20?'”
She concludes, “So I found a purpose. I found a purpose, and I’m happy with it. I’ll talk to you about that later.”
