If anyone is searching for their very own Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney may have the solution.
The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star, who is Reynolds’ friend and Wrexham AFC co-chairman, announced in celebration of Reynolds’ 48th birthday that he was partnering with Best Friends Animal Society for “the ultimate birthday surprise.”
Reynolds, whose birthday is Wednesday, Oct. 23, posted an Instagram video of McElhenney, 47, saying Best Friends named all the animals up for adoption after the Deadpool star to mark the occasion.
The pair typically celebrate one another’s birthdays with unconventional gifts. In the past, Reynolds commissioned a Titanic-inspired portrait of McElhenney, and McElhenney gifted Reynolds a blimp with his face on it.
McElhenney explained that “there’s no better gift for Ryan than unconditional love.” The actor joked that if anyone tried “to give him that unconditional love, we’d be slapped with a restraining order by a very powerful Hollywood attorney.”
So he has a proposal. Everyone should have their own Ryan Reynolds to “shower him with love and affection.”
He explained that Best Friends Save Them All renamed all of the puppies, senior dogs, cats, kittens, horses, pigs, bunnies, birds, as well as a turtle and a donkey after Reynolds.
“If you’d like to help take care of all these adorable Ryans, I’m going to match all donations to Best Friends, dollar for dollar through the end of the month, up to $25,000.”
McElhenney said all the adoptable Ryan Reynolds are listed on the Best Friends’ website, and available in New York, Arkansas, California, Texas and at the Best Friends’ sanctuary in Utah.
Best Friends Animal Society is an animal welfare organization with the goal of ending the killing of shelter animals by 2025. Every 90 seconds, a dog or cat in a shelter is killed in this country, and in 2023, over 415,000 animals lost their lives in shelters, according to the organization.
“Adopters, fans, and friends are encouraged to join in on the fun by bringing home a ‘Ryan’ from their nearest Best Friends facility and posting a pic of their new pals with #AdoptARyan,” Best Friends said, per ABC 4.
