Ray Romano is ready to step into his new role as a grandfather.
The Everybody Loves Raymond star, 68, recently joined Today to talk about his career and family life, sharing his excitement about becoming a grandfather. Romano, whose daughter Ally is expecting her first baby with husband Zachary Wilezol, shared that the new addition to the family is due to arrive on Saturday, revealing he already has his grandpa name picked out.
"You know, my father was Papa Al, so I think we're going to try to go with Papa Ray, but sometimes it evolves into something else, you know?" he said, noting that the baby-to-be may mispronounce the name.
Elsewhere in the interview, the Parenthood star shared his excitement for his first grandchild. Romano also shared why he heard being a granddad was the "best thing in the world."
"We have a little boy coming, and it's our first. And, I hear it's great," he said. "I hear it's the best thing in the world because it's like a parent, [where] you get to play with them, and then when they smell, you give them back."
The actor's daughter, 35, first announced her pregnancy on Instagram in November. Ally shared a series of photos that showed off her baby bump while on vacation in Turks and Caicos with Wilezol. The pair posed together on the beach, while Ally put her bump on display in a bikini and cradled her stomach with her hand.
"The bikini has never looked better 💙👶🏼," she captioned the post.
Ally, who works in publicity, married Wilezol on Sept. 21, 2024, at the iconic New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue in New York City, PEOPLE reported last year.

The actor and comedian spoke with PEOPLE alongside Phil Rosenthal for the 30th-anniversary reunion special of Everybody Loves Raymond, which aired last November. During the special, Romano revealed the exciting news that he is going to be a grandpa, telling PEOPLE that he and his wife Anna are so excited to become grandparents.
"It's our first one. I have two kids who got married last year, and I told them both…I wasn't avoiding trying to be a grandpa, I was telling him to speed it up because we're not getting any younger and I want to be able to lift them," Romano joked.
"But my daughter's having a baby in February and I'm looking forward to it," he continued. "I only hear great things about it and I know what having a child is like and I think this is probably going to be the same joy without the same kind of being tired and not being able to do anything else."
"All of the fun and none of the responsibility," Rosenthal chimed in. "Yes, I hope so because we can give 'em back as soon as we're tired," said Romano.
