Goosebumps fans have a spooky reason to celebrate this season.
The iconic children’s horror series turns 35 next year, and author R.L. Stine is releasing a delightful scary surprise to celebrate.
Stine is paying tribute to one of his most terrifying characters — Slappy, the evil ventriloquist’s dummy who first made an appearance in the 1993 Goosebumps novel Night of the Living Dummy.

Hide and Scare Slappy, a new gift set, will be released next summer. The set includes a variety of items, including a new book entitled Slappy’s Book of Pranks, which includes directions for over 20 different pranks, Slappy trivia, a history of pranking, jokes and an introduction by Stine himself.
The gift set also includes a Slappy doll and a retro edition of Night of the Living Dummy, featuring its original cover art.

The doll and books will be packaged in a collectible box, designed to look like Slappy’s iconic house. The packaging also includes Easter eggs for eagle-eyed Goosebumps fans.
“Slappy in every home is a dream of mine come true,” Stine tells PEOPLE. “I can already hear the SCREAMS and LAUGHS.”

Stine debuted Goosebumps in 1992 with the novel Welcome to Dead House. The series has sold more than 400 million copies worldwide, and has inspired numerous television and film adaptations.
“There was no advertising, nobody really knew me,” Stine told PEOPLE in 2024 of the series’ early days. “Just, kids found them and brought them in, and showed them to their friends in school. It was this secret kids’ network — kids showing kids, and then somehow it just took off all over the world just because of kids.”
