Prince Harry’s UK return fueled by inheritance fears as Prince William’s reign looms

Prince Harry’s sudden return to the UK may have less to do with family reconciliation and more to do with his financial future as Prince William’s reign looms, sources claim.

Royal insider Kinsey Schofield exclusively told Page Six that William’s circle believes “money and inheritance are part of the calculation” for Harry and Meghan Markle’s impending return across the pond.

“There is a suspicion within Prince William’s orbit that Harry and Meghan understand the clock is ticking and want to re-establish their position, influence, and proximity to the monarchy while Charles is still King,” Schofield dished.

The “Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered” podcast host pointed out that William — who is next in line to the British throne — will eventually have a greater authority over the “shape of the monarchy.”

“There is a belief that [William] will be much less accommodating,” Schofield said, sharing, “My sources believe Harry knows that. They see this as an attempt to get a foot back in the door before William is the one deciding how firmly that door is closed.”

Schofield has heard whispers that there is “genuine concern” within the Wales’ camp about what Harry and Markle’s move could mean for William, Kate Middleton and their family.

“They have not forgotten the escalation in threats and online harassment directed at the Waleses after the Oprah interview, and they fear another cycle of accusations, leaks or interviews could inflame that hostility again,” Schofield said, referring to the several interviews the Sussexes conducted in which they aired their grievances with the royal family.

“In the opinion of my palace source, Harry and Meghan are loose cannons,” she continued, describing them as “unpredictable, indiscreet and, critically, not always reliable narrators of events.”

There is also deep skepticism within William’s confidants that their sudden urgency to live close to the royal family has anything to do with King Charles III’s health. (Charles, 77, revealed he was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024).

“Their question is, where was that sensitivity when Prince Philip was in hospital and Harry and Meghan were preparing to broadcast their grievances to Oprah?” Schofield asked, before questioning, “Where was it while they were filming their Netflix documentary during Queen Elizabeth II’s final months?”

Page Six confirmed on Wednesday that Harry and the “Suits” alum were going to move back to the UK at the end of the month for “an extended period” — just six years after they resigned from their royal duties and settled down in Montecito, California, with their two kids: Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.

A source told us that Archie and Lilibet will be enrolled at a school there.

“The palace was made aware of the move,” the source said, noting that Charles was informed on Sunday that his son and daughter-in-law were moving back across the pond.

Another insider said that Charles is the reason Harry and the As Ever founder are moving back and that the King “looks forward” to spending more time with them. However, he has made it clear that they will remain “non-working” members of the royal family and be treated as private citizens.

Page Six exclusively revealed that the couple decided to return to the UK to be closer to Charles and to ensure their kids build relationships with their royal relatives.

Markle, 45, and Harry, 41, will allegedly move into a “non-royal residence” and continue building their “business enterprises,” the Sun reported.

Along with their bombshell interviews with Winfrey and Netflix, Harry also dragged his family members in his 2023 memoir, “Spare.” The “With Love, Meghan” host also made claims accusing royal family members of racism, saying someone had expressed concerns about her baby’s skin color.

Tensions have been boiling over between Harry and William and they have yet to reconcile. A source told Page Six on Wednesday that things remain frosty between the brothers and William refuses to talk to Harry.

However, Harry has been able to slowly mend things with his dad, whom he met with just last month. The reunion marked the first time Harry, Markle, and their kids gathered with Charles and Queen Camilla for the first time in four years.

Reps for Markle and Harry did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
