A pregnant woman trapped in a sinking car in Florida was rescued by a "Good Samaritan" and first responders on Friday, Feb. 6.
Around 8 a.m. local time in Stuart, Fla., Martin County Fire & Rescue "responded to a harrowing scene near the 112-mile marker on I-95 after a vehicle left the roadway and became fully submerged in a pond near the weigh station," MCFR said in a statement.
"Reports from the scene indicate that as the car began to sink, a Good Samaritan who witnessed the crash immediately jumped into action," the MCFR continued. "We were told the witness swam roughly 30 feet from the shore to reach the vehicle. He was able to reach the driver, whom he recognized was pregnant, and open the door."
The bystander pulled the woman to safety before her vehicle "was completely lost under the water," MCFR said.

MCFR then performed an "immediate medical intervention" and brought the woman to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The dive team also assisted with the rescue and searched for the vehicle.
"I was just kind of dumbfounded, to be honest. Like, I just couldn't believe that happened. Couldn't believe that at that exact moment I happened to be driving by at the exact time," the Good Samaritan, identified as Logan Hayes, told local outlet WPBF.
"I swam up to the car, the back passenger door was the only door that was … luckily, it was the closest door as well as it was kind of the only door that was still enough above water," he recalled.

Hayes then recalled that the woman, who remains unidentified, was panicking as the car flooded with water. He proceeded to direct her to safety.
"And so, she comes in between the two front seats and climbs … she's coming into the backseat. The car is now starting to tilt more and roll down and more over. It's water flooding the car," Hayes, who works on a private sport fishing boat, told WPBF.

"I've had other instances where I've helped people to shore, surfing and all kinds of stuff, but I definitely felt way more control in those instances," he added to the outlet. "As comfortable as I am in the water, to feel like I was capable being able to do something like that."
