Perez Hilton’s family is sharing an update on the blogger’s condition after he appeared to self-harm during a livestream from his Miami home earlier this week.
In a statement posted on his eponymous website on Saturday, Aug. 8, Hilton’s family began, “There are many false and inaccurate reports circulating in the media regarding Perez and the circumstances surrounding this situation.”
“We want to confirm that Perez remains hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act,” they continued, referring to the legal move that allows authorities, judges or medical professionals to hold an individual for a mental health evaluation for up to 72 hours.
“His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers and others directly involved in his care. He has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements,” continued Hilton’s loved ones. “The only statements regarding Perez that should be considered credible and authorized are those published directly on PerezHilton.com.”
On Aug. 4, local authorities were called to the scene of Hilton’s Florida home after receiving reports of a “suicide attempt,” the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) previously confirmed to PEOPLE.
In the latest update on Aug. 8, Hilton’s family said, “Perez’s condition remains serious but stable.”
“He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days,” they continued. “His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday.”
As Hilton’s family members said they are “focused on Perez’s treatment and recovery,” they added, “We also need the space and privacy to care for everyone affected by this situation.”

In bold, Hilton’s family wrote, “There is absolutely no reason for members of the media or the public to remain outside the family’s home. We again respectfully ask members of the media to leave the home and surrounding area, stop following family members, and cease photographing Perez’s children. We also ask photo agencies not to purchase, publish, or distribute any photographs of the children that may have been taken.”
Highlight that “for more than a decade, PerezHilton.com has maintained a ‘no kids policy’ “ of not publishing photographs of children, “unless they are attending a public event or their family has chosen to make those photographs public on social media,” Hilton’s loved ones asked for the same for his kids.
“Perez’s children remain safe and are being cared for by immediate family,” they said. “Please allow them and the rest of the family the peace and privacy they desperately need during this incredibly difficult time.”
Hilton is a father to children Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8, all of whom live in Miami, where they recently moved to be closer to his mother, Teresita Lavandeira.
Hilton’s family concluded their message: “Thank you for your continued support, compassion, and understanding.”
Hilton’s family previously shared an update on his condition on Aug. 5, stating that he was “able to communicate,” which had left them with “hope.”
Representatives for Hilton said in a statement that same day that they did not “have any additional confirmed information to share regarding Perez Hilton’s condition.” They have not commented further to PEOPLE.
Hilton’s loved ones said that his children, niece and sister were home minutes before his livestream, and when it became apparent that he was “experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself,” they “immediately fled” the property.

Following the internet personality’s livestream, Hilton’s TikTok account was banned, a U.S. spokesperson for TikTok confirmed to PEOPLE.
