A Pennsylvania man was charged this week after he rummaged through other passengers’ luggage and stole a wallet and credit cards. But it was his vaping that got him caught by the flight crew.
Jaymer Ferrell, 23, was sentenced to one year of supervised release, including 90 days of home detention, and ordered to pay a $250 fine after pleading guilty in federal court on Tuesday, April 7, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
According to an Allegheny County Police Department report submitted in court and obtained by PEOPLE, Breeze Airways flight attendants called ahead to have law enforcement meet their aircraft upon arrival at Pittsburgh International Airport on April 9, 2025. The report states authorities were initially called because a male was seen vaping on the plane, which is a federal offense.

Upon arrival, a desk officer informed police the passenger, identified as Ferrell, was also going through other passengers’ belongings and “throwing things throughout the cabin,” per the report. He was also suspected of engaging in a possible domestic dispute with his partner.
A flight attendant told police that he had multiple interactions with Ferrell on the flight. He claimed to have observed “Ferrel going through multiple bags in the overhead bin above the seat he was sitting in.” The flight attendant, figuring all of those bags did not belong to him, says he approached the suspect and offered him assistance.
Ferrell allegedly explained he was looking for his wallet in his bag, so the flight attendant suggested he take it to the back row to have space to look, but the passenger declined and sat back down in his seat.
The flight attendant also claimed that he saw Ferrel repeatedly leave his seat to use the bathroom for long periods of time. Eventually, the crew member caught Ferrell vaping in the bathroom and informed him that it was strictly prohibited.

Per the report, during the plane’s final approach, the flight attendant said Ferrell was standing up, complaining that his cell phone was missing. At that time, Ferrell’s female companion ran to the bathroom and stayed there for 15 minutes. When she returned, she allegedly confronted the suspect about text messages sent to other women. That’s when Ferrell “began to throw her items around the cabin,” the report claims.
After questioning the suspect, authorities ran his name and discovered an active arrest warrant. He was subsequently placed into custody and transported to a police station for intake.
Upon search, authorities found a blue backpack, a black wallet and a cell phone on his person. Inside the backpack was an Ibuprofen bottle which contained four Alprazolam pills and one Oxycodone pill — both of which are Schedule II drugs that require a prescription, per the report.
Also found was a green Coach wallet containing credit cards with the name of another passenger. Inside Ferrell’s wallet was a credit card and debit card that belonged to two other unidentified people.
