Parker McCollum is opening up about his life as a new dad.
While chatting with PEOPLE on the 58th Annual Country Music Association Awards red carpet, the singer, 31, shared that the highlight of his year was “certainly Major being born,” referring to his baby son, whom he welcomed in early August with wife Hallie Ray Light.
“She’s the greatest mom in the world,” the proud dad tells PEOPLE of his wife. “We just had our first kid, Major, three and a half months ago, and he and I are learning at the same pace. But she already knows everything, so thank god for her.”

McCollum is gearing up for his first holiday season as a dad, and he shares that Major is about to be showered with presents from Santa.
“He ain’t even gonna know it’s Christmas,” the country star jokes. “I begged my mother-in-law not to get him any gifts — he’s already got so much stuff. I think she’s cleaned out Amazon for everything they have for newborns.”
“But it’s good,” he adds.
