- One new mom decided to stay with her parents for two months after giving birth
- When the time came for her husband and in-laws to pick her up, her parents became emotional
- She was left shocked by her in-laws’ response to her parents’ show of affection
Becoming a parent is one of life’s most emotional transitions. However, one new mother on Reddit was not met with empathy but with mockery, from her very own in-laws.
“I (f23) just had a baby. after giving birth i stayed w my parents for like 2 months before moving back home w my husband,” she wrote in a post.
Like many new moms, the Reddit user needed assistance and comfort, and her parents provided that stability.

When the time came to leave, emotions naturally ran high. “When my husband + his parents came to pick me up, my parents got emotional saying goodbye,” she recalled. “Like yeah they cried a bit, it was really sweet honestly.”
But instead of sharing in that tenderness, her in-laws reacted cruelly. “In the car my inlaws started laughing about it?? like saying ‘oh wow so dramatic’ and stuff,” she wrote.
The poster described sitting there in disbelief – a new mother, postpartum, listening to laughter over her parents’ heartfelt goodbye. “I just sat there like… are you serious? it felt so mean and disrespectful.”
What makes the situation more painful is the in-laws’ apparent absence during those difficult first weeks.
“Btw during those 2 months they barely texted or called to check on us, not even when the baby got sick twice,” she wrote. “And now they’re mocking my parents for caring too much??”
When she stood up for herself and told them “it wasn’t funny,” the Reddit user’s husband said she “overreacted.”

For many readers, that reaction from her husband was just as troubling as his parents’ behavior.
“I am so sorry that you have a child with this man,” one commented. Another also offered her condolences, writing, “My heart goes out to you. That is not ‘good husband’ or ’good father’ behavior.”
