A Florida man has been charged in connection with the death of his girlfriend, whose brutalized body was found by his mother when she was visiting in October.
The victim, 43-year-old Kristin Carrier, was found dead with multiple gunshot and stab wounds on Oct. 10, in the suspect’s Jacksonville, Fla., home, the local sheriff’s office said this week.
Authorities announced the arrest of 32-year-old Robert Hendrix on Wednesday, Feb. 19, in connection with the woman’s death.
Police were notified about the killing on Oct. 10 by one of Hendrix’s family members, who had come to his home to take shelter from Hurricane Milton, according to an arrest report cited by News 4 Jax and First Coast News. The woman was identified by News 4 Jax as Hendrix’s mother.
The woman reportedly told police she went to her son’s home on Oct. 9 to be with him during the storm, per News 4 Jax.
The following day, after the storm had passed, Hendrix went to the store, per the arrest affidavit as reported by Law & Crime. It was then that his mother found a dead body wrapped in tarp, police said, per the outlets.
The body was found in the master bedroom of the house, the affidavit stated, per News 4 Jax and First Coast News.
The woman then called her daughter, Hendrix’s sister, to pick her up, and the two confronted him upon his return. He became “animated,” the affidavit said, per News 4 Jax.
The women then left and notified authorities.

Investigators say they recovered a bat and knife from the scene, per News 4 Jax. It’s not immediately clear when authorities believe Carrier died.
Hendrix was arrested at the scene on unrelated charges of a felon in possession of firearm and possession of controlled substance, per online court records reviewed by PEOPLE. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges.
Court records show Hendrix was charged on Wednesday with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in connection with Carrier’s death. He is being represented by the Jacksonville public defender’s office, who tells PEOPLE he has not yet been assigned an attorney or entered a plea.
He is being held on $75,003 bond.
