Melody Thomas Scott’s favorite part about playing Nikki Newman on The Young and the Restless may be getting to work with her husband, Edward J. Scott.
The actress, 68, attended The Young and the Restless 13,000th episode celebration on Friday, Oct. 25, where she discussed with PEOPLE what it’s like having her husband, 80, return to the show as a senior producer.
“It’s just like old times. For so many decades, he was here, and that’s how we met, so it’s like all home week. It really, it’s like business as usual,” she says.
Edward joined the show in 1976 as an associate producer while Melody’s beloved character was not introduced until 1979.
He quickly climbed up the ranks, ultimately becoming an executive producer of the show until 2007. Earlier this month, it was announced that he would return to the show after serving 14 years as a supervising producer for The Bold and the Beautiful.
While Melody admits that she hasn’t kept track of how many episodes of The Young and the Restless she’s appeared in, noting that she’s “been to a few of these gatherings,” she still has a few memories from her first day on set.

“Well, this is not what you’re expecting to hear, but there is a boom operator that I found so cute,” she says with a laugh. “And he never knew it. I never told him.”
With having her husband on set again, however, she says that the two have found joy in being spouses who share the same workplace.
“It’s funny. We were making jokes about that yesterday. I told him I was going to call HR on him,” she jokingly tells PEOPLE.
Melody and Edward, who have been married since 1985, received Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in June.
While accepting the honor, Melody opened up about how the soap opera has allowed her to find a family on and off screen.
“Lot of people have been talking about family tonight on this stage and growing up, this Hollywood kid was family challenged,” she said.
“When I was cast on Y&R 45 years ago, I walked onto stage 41 at TV city, and knew I was finally home with the family that had been waiting for me all along,” continued Melody.
