Nearly two decades after first asking the age-old question Why Did I Get Married?, Tyler Perry revisited it for the third installment in the franchise. Only this time, the question is: Why Did I Get Married Again?.
The Netflix film premiered in September 2026 and reunited most of the original cast — including Perry, Sharon Leal, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Jill Scott, Lamman Rucker and Richard T. Jones — for a wedding between two of their now-grown children. According to the official synopsis, the group realizes that “their children have grown up to be so much like them” and “that as much as things change, they also stay the same.”
Perry explained the decision to bring the younger generation into the fold, telling PEOPLE in July 2026, “Introducing this new generation of characters gave us an opportunity to give the kids an opportunity to shine and go through things and eventually realize they’re not perfect and neither were their parents.”
So, who are the members of the franchise’s next generation? Here’s everything to know about the new characters in Why Did I Get Married Again?.

Taraji P. Henson joined the film series as Roselyn, a longtime friend of the group.
Her estranged son, Wesley (Everett Osborne), is marrying Marcus (White) and Angela’s (Smith) daughter, Jasmine (Armani Greer), but their big day could be overshadowed by the “extra baggage” the mother-of-the-groom has brought along.
“She’s actually been friends with the group for a long time,” the actress told PEOPLE of her character, who runs a multimillion-dollar real estate company. “She’s the fierce, powerful businesswoman.”
