- Matthew Morrison says fan requests on Cameo for “Thong Song” and “Tell Me Something Good” reignited his connection to Glee
- Morrison is replacing Jonathan Groff as Bobby Darin in Broadway’s Just In Time for a limited three-week run in April
- Several of Morrison’s former Glee costars, including Lea Michele and Kevin McHale, are also starring in Broadway productions
Matthew Morrison didn't feel particularly connected to Glee after it went off the air, but all that changed after he gained significant attention for his viral fan videos.
When talking to PEOPLE about his return to Broadway, Morrison shares that he was brought back to his role as Will Schuester when he joined Cameo, sending personalized video messages to fans around the world.
"I feel like I've been so removed from it for so long," Morrison, 47, shares. "Then I just started doing these Cameo things that have kind of gone a little crazy and viral."
Morrison admits there are "two songs that I kind of forgot about" that he gets asked to sing the most, "Thong Song" and "Tell Me Something Good." Fans like them so much that Morrison added the songs to his one-man, 90-minute show, Show Up.
"Now people want to hear those so much that I actually incorporated their songs into my concert because people will get them by yelling them out in the concert, 'Thong Song!' I'm like, 'Alright, we'll give the people what they want,'" he says.

The Screen Actors Guild Award winner played Mr. Schuester, teacher and faculty head of the Glee club, in the beloved show, which ran from 2009 to 2015.
Morrison starred on the beloved FOX series alongside Lea Michele, Jane Lynch, Naya Rivera, Cory Monteith, Kevin McHale, Dianna Agron, Darren Criss, Jonathan Groff and Amber Riley, just to name a few.
In February 2026, it was announced that Morrison would be taking over the role of Bobby Darin in Broadway's Just In Time, replacing 41-year-old Groff. When asked whether Groff gave him any advice for the show, Morrison tells PEOPLE, "No, and I love that."
"The advice is just what he's put into the show. He put in the work. Replacing anyone is tricky, but Jonathan set the bar so incredibly high in the best way," he says. "From everything that I've seen, he leads with so much kindness and joy in that building. My goal is just to honor that energy and bring my own truth to it."

A few of Morrison's former Glee costars are also currently on Broadway, with Michele starring in Chess and McHale in the 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee. Darren Criss also won a Tony for his work in Maybe Happy Ending.
Morrison admits he "hasn't had many conversations with them" about his new role, but he did see Chess with Michele "the other day."
"I'm trying to sneak in all the shows that I can. I saw Maybe Happy Ending a while ago. I saw Kevin McHale in the Spelling Bee. I think the Sunday night show this first week, I think the cast is going to come to try to see the show," Morrison shares.
Morrison will be starring as Bobby Darin in Just In Time from now until April 19.
