It’s the end of an era for Framingham Baking Company.
The Massachusetts establishment announced plans to shutter after more than 100 years in a Facebook post on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
“We will be closing Sunday March 29th,” reads a paper sign in a photo the bakery shared.
"Joan, Ernie and Kathy thank our customers and employees for many years of memories," the sign adds, noting that the eatery was founded in 1917.
According to the bakery’s website, its signature cheese tray pizzas, which include 18 square slices, are baked daily and cost $37.50.
“Our pizza, bread and rolls are still made the old fashion way,” the website says. “Baked fresh daily, from scratch and by hand. We are most famous for our sheet pizzas, a staple at many family gatherings and holiday meals.”

The bakery also notes that it’s been run by “four generations of the Thomas Family,” its owners, over the past 109 years.
In October, the bakery addressed its future in a post on Facebook.
“The Bakery is NOT closing!” the post said. “Over the past two decades or more the third generation — Ernie, Joan & Kathy — have been looking for good stewards to carry on our century old service to the community.”
“Like many family run businesses, there are some that are detached from the business that see it as a mere asset to be liquidated; be clear, the Thomas family has never felt that way about the Bakery,” it went on.
“The Framingham Baking team remains committed to our customers and community,” the message continued. “We welcome suggestions on how to improve our business or in interest in becoming the next stewards of our business. When we make a decision on our future, you will be the first to know.”
The establishment’s Facebook announcement that it would indeed close after all garnered more than 1,000 comments from disappointed fans, with many calling for the owners to share recipes for popular menu items.
"Ate here all my childhood, had the iconic pizza at every family gathering,” one wrote. “Hell, I asked for it as a birthday treat. One of the hardest things about moving to a different state was saying goodbye to this bakery, give us a cookbook pretty please!!”
“So many good memories started with a slice (or tray) of Framingham Baking Company pizza,” someone else wrote.
