After helping a man who became ill while mowing his yard, Oklahoma City firefighters noticed there was still one thing they could do for him

The Oklahoma City firefighters who responded when a man became ill while mowing his lawn didn’t consider their work finished once he was safely in an ambulance.
In a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, Sept. 9, the Oklahoma City Fire Department said crews had recently responded to a medical call involving a man who became sick while working in his yard.
Firefighters provided care and made sure the man was safely inside an ambulance headed to the hospital. But before leaving, they noticed something he’d been forced to leave behind: a half-mowed lawn.
“We couldn’t leave it that way, so we finished the job,” the department wrote.
Photos shared by the department show firefighters taking over the lawn mower and completing the work the man had started before becoming ill.
“Service does not always stop when the emergency is over,” the department wrote.
The gesture quickly resonated with people in the community, including one commenter who said their own neighbor is an Oklahoma City firefighter.
“Love this!” the person wrote. “Our neighbor is an OKC firefighter and he is one of the best guys we’ve ever met. A great group of people and our city is lucky to have them!”
Another commenter claimed to recognize the home, saying the man who lives there was once their neighbor before they moved out of state.
“I’ve often thought of him,” the commenter wrote, adding that yard work had “been difficult for him for a long time.”
Others simply praised the crew for doing something they weren’t required to do once the medical emergency was over.
“Hats off to you all that was so sweet of you!” another person wrote. “The world needs more people like you all in it.”

For the Oklahoma City Fire Department, finishing the lawn was simply another way of looking after someone who needed help.
“It was a simple act of kindness,” the department wrote, “and a reminder that caring for our community goes beyond the call.”
