NEED TO KNOW

  • MAC Cosmetics is entering Sephora in March and is celebrating with a major campaign
  • Chappell Roan will appear in the imagery and videos celebrating the announcement alongside Gabbriette and Quenlin Blackwell.
  • “I can’t wait for the time when I can share what we’ve made with people everywhere,” Roan said in a release when she was announced as a global ambassador in December

MAC Cosmetics is enlisting its newest global ambassador Chappell Roan to ensure its debut into Sephora stores is unforgettable.

Ahead of the March 2 launch, the boundary-breaking brand is sharing a sneak peek of the Midwest Princess’s first ad campaign with the brand, which also stars It girls Gabbriette and Quenlin Blackwell.

The Richard Burbridge-shot campaign, which shows each trendsetter nearly makeup-free as well as glammed up, “celebrates the versatility of MAC,” a release states.

It continues, “each talent fearlessly transforms from a soft, barely-there everyday beauty to unapologetic, bold glam.”

In a breathtaking video, soundtracked with Portishead’s “Teardrop” opens with Roan stating “MAC is culture.” Blackwell then says, “MAC is for everyone,” and Gabriette continues, “MAC is sensation.”

The video then shows each star applying various lip colors as they transform their looks through makeup.

Makeup artist Andrew Dahling created the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer’s lip two-tone look with the brand’s lip pencil in Auburn and lipstick in Marrakesh on her upper lip and the lip pencil in Stripdown and lipstick in Taupe on her lower lip.

Says the pro of the new campaign, "The look that we created for Sephora is a nod to the iconic 90s M.A.C mug! Timeless and impactful, this look highlights Chappell’s encapsulating eyes and showcases some of M·A·C’s most iconic lip shades.

"It’s a bit unexpected for Chappell Roan, as we often use an array of color," Dahling continues, "But to celebrate M.A.C’s newest venture in the world market of beauty, we wanted to create a look that honored M.A.C’s legacy as a brand, by and for everyone.”

Meanwhile, makeup artist Lilly Keys created both Gabbriette and Blackwell’s looks.

For Gabriette’s lips, Keys applied the lip pencil in Greige, followed by lipstick in Fleshpot and lip gloss in Accolade.

Blackwell’s combo included the lip pencil in Chestnut, lipstick in Whirl and lip gloss in Clear.

Of the campaign, MAC’s Global Creative Director Nicola Formichetti said in a release, “That shift from minimal to maximal is the essence of MAC. It reflects the complete range of looks you can create and the freedom of expression that defines us.”

Roan was announced as MAC’s latest ambassador in December, following the September announcement that Doja Cat was joining the brand.

“Partnering with MAC feels full circle,” Roan said in a release at the time, continuing, “I can’t wait for the time when I can share what we’ve made with people everywhere.”

For the announcement, the pop star and her trusted makeup artist created her signature stage look using MAC products.

“I drew from film-noir monochrome and 1930s military references and then layered in her signature high glamour,” Dahling explained in a release.

The pro used the Full Coverage Foundation in White, an assortment of false lashes (plus black glitter!) and MACximal Matte Lipstick Cool Teddy, among other products, to create the “Femininomenon” singer’s look.
