On the 10 year anniversary of Leonard Nimoy’s death, his widow, Susan Bay Nimoy, is looking back at their 26-year marriage.
On Feb. 27, 2015, the legendary Star Trek actor died at age 83 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, but his legacy lives on. While their romance was cut short, Susan exclusively tells PEOPLE that his love has lived on within her over the last decade.
“We were very much in love,” she says, thinking of their happy memories. “We would get in bed at eight o’clock or we would say to each other, four more hours, three more hours when we could shut out the day and just get in bed and read and talk and or watch something.”

“Every moment with Leonard, all 35 years was a blessing, so I grieved the absence of his closeness, but he lives inside of me and he would be very proud,” she continues, adding that “giving birth to my son [Aaron]” and “finding love with Leonard” were the two highlights of her life.
When it comes to her favorite memories with Leonard, Susan says finding their home in Lake Tahoe was a standout moment in their longstanding marriage.
“It was a stretch financially, but we decided to buy it, and the quiet and the sense of peace that Leonard found in that house away from L.A., away from everything,” she says. “It was our retreat and it was wonderfully healing for Leonard.”

She adds, “I think blending our families was a highlight, all of it. The only downtime or sad time that occurred was when Leonard’s health started to fail. There was no drama in our marriage and in our life together. Only happy, only a lot of laughs.”
The Brilliant Minds actress says many people don’t know that Leonard was “hysterically funny.”

“I don’t think they saw Spock as having a, well, he did have a sense of humor every now and then in the history of the series, but he loves to fool around,” she explains. “He loves to joke. He loved, yeah. I think having a sense of humor is something they probably didn’t see too often unless they went to a Star Trek convention.”
“He loved his family. He loved dogs. What else can I say about him?” she says before quipping, “He was great in bed!”
