The Laguna Beach cast is taking a trip down memory lane — 20 years later!
On Thursday, March 26, the stars of the MTV reality show came together at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, Calif., as they reunited on the red carpet to celebrate the show’s reunion special — The Reunion: Laguna Beach.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE on the red carpet, Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari opened up about how they mended their tumultuous relationship after constantly clashing on the series, which followed a group of high school students as they navigated the ups and downs of being a teen in Southern California, and fighting over costar Stephen Colletti.
“I think it was great,” Conrad, 40, tells PEOPLE of making up with Cavallari, 39. “It was part of what we wanted to show is that we've all grown, we're all adults, a lot of us are parents. And I think that as you get older, you're not worried about the small stuff.”

The fashion designer went on to share that the pair “have so much in common” and have continued their friendship since filming the reunion special last year.
“We've been having so much fun just texting and talking and laughing together,” Conrad adds.
Cavallari was equally positive about the pair healing their friendship, telling PEOPLE, “I'm really happy about it.”
“I'm thankful that we had the opportunity to even do that,” explains Cavallari. “And it's been, obviously for us we haven't had any beefs for the last however many years. We’re adults. We've all moved past it, but I think it's nice and to show everybody that we've moved past it is going to be really therapeutic in a lot of ways.”

“We squashed it pretty quickly. Everyone wants to still believe that we're enemies,” continues the Let’s Be Honest podcast host of the pair’s past feud. “But it's been great getting to know her now as an adult. And I've realized we actually have a lot more in common than I think both of us ever thought. So it's been interesting to see.”
Conrad and Cavallari made their reality TV debuts on Laguna Beach in 2004. Conrad then went on to star in The Hills from 2006, before Cavallari took her place in 2009 when Conrad departed.

Other Laguna Beach stars on the red carpet included Colletti, Morgan Smith, Trey Phillips, Jessica Smith Evans, Christina Sinclair, Talan Torriero and Dieter Schmitz.
On Tuesday, the Roku Channel dropped the trailer for the emotional reunion special with the cast. The trailer begins with Conrad and Cavallari sitting by a fire and saying that they've "never had a conversation on camera, just the two of us."

The cast then sat down for a conversation with comedian Casey Wilson, before the they discussed high-school feuds and looked back on events that took place over two decades prior.
