Lance Gross knows it’s never too late to celebrate love.
The actor, 43, and his wife Rebecca Gross, 39, are gearing up for their 10th wedding anniversary in May, and Lance — who stars in BET+’s new romance film Sugar Baby — tells PEOPLE how he and Rebecca keep their relationship fresh by continuing to prioritize date nights.
“You know, it feels like yesterday,” Lance says of the intimate L.A. ceremony the couple had back in 2015. “I mean, it’s always new, because we’re friends first, and I think we have a strong respect for each other. So you know, if we disagree, we talk about it. It’s all about communication with us.”
While admitting he’s “absolutely” a romantic, the House of Payne actor is thinking past Valentine’s Day and focusing his energy on plans to finally take their long awaited honeymoon next month.

“We never took our honeymoon,” reveals Lance. Though he says “we are a traveling family,” Lance and his wife, an in-demand celebrity stylist with whom he shares daughter Berkeley Brynn, 10, and son Lennon Lorin, 6, were never able to celebrate their marriage, just the two of them.
Now they’re making time to act like newlyweds again. Lance tells PEOPLE of their big plans, “We’re going to Rome and Venice next month. I love romance.”
As for Valentine’s Day memories, Lance recalls an unforgettable date he and his wife once had in Cabo.
“We had dinner on the beach,” he says. “She was kind of mad at me for something. We had gotten into a little argument, but it was fun to surprise her.”
The dinner was only steps from their hotel, which made it a fun surprise element for his wife, Lance shares.
“Just to see the look on her face when I surprised her with that dinner was pretty awesome.”

The actor admits he hasn’t asked Rebecca to be his Valentine recently, but he does ask her out weekly.
“We still do our date nights every week on Thursdays,” he explains. “Today is Thursday, so we actually did two date nights tonight and tomorrow Valentine’s. We always explore. We keep it new, we date, we’re friends.”
When it comes to fatherhood, Lance says he makes it a priority to stay close with his family especially when he’s on set. “If I’m working outside of L.A., which is often I put them on a plane and they come see me and spend time with me,” he says.

Most recently, the actor celebrated the release of Sugar Baby on Feb. 13, his BET+ original movie. In the romance-thriller film, Lance plays Anthony, a wealthy older man who falls for a woman named Jade, played by Christina Cooper.
“My character Anthony is rich, so he has cars, he has a nice house. So that was fun,” Lance says. “And on set I would like to prank my costar, Christina, you know, I like to scare people. That’s my thing. So I creep up on them if they’re asleep or if they’re just not expecting me. I’m a big kid, so I enjoy stuff like that.”
And that playfulness serves him well at home in his favorite role as dad. On top of his upcoming anniversary trip, Lance has another big vacation planned with his eldest.
“We take a yearly daddy-daughter trip, just me and her. The first one, we went to Paris, and we had the time of our lives,” he says. “And she’s definitely looking forward to the next one, which is either going to be New York or Japan.”
Sugar Baby is available to stream on BET+.
