Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard don’t let a little onscreen chemistry with other people get the best of them!
Bell opened up about her 11-year marriage to Shepard and how they keep their relationship on solid ground during a recent interview with E! News. During the conversation, The Good Place actress revealed that she and Shepard genuinely “root for each other” when they have a new onscreen romance.
“When he got to make out with Minka Kelly on Parenthood, I was like, ‘Yes. Get it.’ We’re married, we’re not dead,” she said.
Bell also shared that a big part of their secret to a stable partnership is “foundational trust” and communication.
“Even if Dax hooks up with the most beautiful person in the world at work, I know he’s committed to our family. I know he’s coming home. I know he loves our children. I know he strives to be a great husband and father,” she said.
“We’re just human, right?” she continued, adding, “So maybe there could be a day where I’m like, ‘I’m actually really nervous that you spend time with that person.’ And he could say, ‘Oh, OK, let’s talk about it. What makes you nervous? What are you thinking?’ We have a very open communication.”

“Even I can acknowledge watching it, like, ‘Whoa, that’s hot,’ ” she said. “My husband said the same thing. Like, watching the first episode he was like, ‘Oh my God, I want you to kiss him so badly.’ ”
Shepard also spoke of Bell and Brody’s undeniable onscreen connection while attending the New Yorker Festival that same month.
“My friend [and I] … we watched that scene together, the kissing scene, which I’d argue is the very best kissing scene ever, ever put on film. And my best friend, Aaron, from childhood, he goes, ‘Does she ever kiss you like that?’ No, I didn’t even know she could kiss like that,” Shepard joked.

The pair — who share daughters Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 9 — have been vocal in the past about their belief that it’s okay to acknowledge their attraction to other people — and it doesn’t mean they are any less committed to each other.
“I’m […] attracted to other guys because some other guys are very handsome,” Bell said in a 2018 appearance on The View. “But me being attracted to another man — I know because I’m experiencing it — has absolutely nothing to do with my husband. So I know for a fact that when he experiences the same thing, it doesn’t have anything to do with me not being good enough.”
