King Charles III has been admitted to the hospital amid his ongoing cancer battle.
“Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital,” a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace told The Sun Thursday.
“His Majesty’s afternoon engagements were therefore postponed.”
The spokesperson added that Charles, 76, had already returned to Clarence House but would be rescheduling all of his engagements for Friday “as a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice.”
“His Majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result,” the statement concluded.
According to The Sun, the British monarch was taken to the hospital by car, not by an emergency vehicle.
Queen Camilla reportedly did not join her husband at the hospital.
His Majesty’s cancer diagnosis was revealed in February 2024 after he underwent a procedure for a benign enlarged prostate.
“Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” Buckingham Palace announced in an official statement at the time.
The statement noted that the King was “grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention” and that “he remains wholly positive about his treatment.”
The palace has not disclosed what form of cancer Charles was diagnosed with.
Charles reportedly briefly paused his cancer treatment in October 2024 when he and Camilla made a royal visit to Australia for 11 days.
He notably has a state visit to Italy coming up in April, but the palace told The Sun that they expect the trip to go ahead as planned despite his hospitalization.
