- While speaking to PEOPLE, Kenney-Silver took a nostalgic look back at the ’90s, revealing which styles she’d bring back in a heartbeat

Kerri Kenney-Silver got a little nostalgic while stepping out for the world premiere screening of Wishful Thinking.
On Thursday, March 12, 2026, she joined fellow castmates Jake Shane, Lewis Pullman, and Maya Hawke at the film's SXSW premiere, which was hosted at the Zach Theatre in Austin, Texas.

While chatting with PEOPLE, the 56-year-old actress reflected on her favorite ‘90s trends and even talked about recently posting a throwback video on Instagram filled with photos of herself during that era in time. The viral “Mom, what were you like in the 90s?” trend has also been embraced by celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Drew Barrymore.
“I just posted one of those things on Instagram that got a surprising amount of response because I was in like a riot girl band and I think people have seen me only one way really for so many years,” Kenney-Silver tells PEOPLE, referring to her often comedic roles.

For many viewers, that “one way” comes from the memorable characters she’s played across comedy television. But on the series Four Seasons, fans got to see another side of the actress.
The show gave her the opportunity to explore a more grounded and layered performance, allowing audiences to connect with her in a way that goes beyond the broad comedy she’s long been known for. That contrast is part of why the throwback resonated so strongly online.
The photos showed Kenney-Silver during her New York City days in the 1990s, when she was performing in the indie rock band Cake Like alongside fellow musicians Nina Hellman and Barbara “Barg” Cassella.
With her edgy style and punk-influenced look, the images revealed a very different chapter of her life before television fame.
“To see a throwback of me as like a kind of… ‘punk rock chick’ in the '90s was, I think, another surprise for people after seeing Trudy Weigel for so many years,” Kenney-Silver adds, nodding to her role in the cult-favorite comedy Reno 911!.
As Trudy, she played a hilariously awkward deputy known for her oddball confidence, blunt honesty and endlessly quotable one-liners, qualities that cemented Kenney-Silver as one of the show’s standout comedic forces.

Still, when it comes to revisiting the ’90s today, it’s not just the attitude she misses, but the fashion.
“I love a baby doll dress, I mean, I know, let's talk about just being completely vapid. I go right to the clothing, but style wise I just love a baby doll dress,” Kenney-Silver tells PEOPLE when asked what she wants to see make a comeback in 2026.
