Payton Sartain and Joe Ross are officially engaged!
The Note to Self podcast host, 30, and the Milwaukee Brewers pitcher, 31, shared the exciting news in a joint Instagram post on Thursday, Dec. 26. In their caption, Sartain wrote that the couple had been “keeping something to ourselves for a bit 💍💙” and included several photos of the two posed together with Sartain’s ring on full display.
While the couple kept the details around when the engagement occurred under wraps, Sartain revealed that the couple’s special moment was also intimate. “We got engaged over our favorite meal in Florida, sitting down to watch our nightly show together,” she wrote over one of the photos of her ring. “It’s everything I asked for & more.”
Sartain also noted on Instagram Stories that she almost “posted stories with this ring multiple times in the last 10 days” on her Instagram Stories, but gushed about being able to finally “live my truth.”

In a TikTok posted on Dec. 26, Sartain opened up more about their engagement and shared that she and Ross had been together “since 2020.” She also touched on their break up in late 2022, which lasted nine months before they ultimately reunited.
“No contact was an absolute blessing even though it was so hard,” she said in her video, adding that the couple eventually reunited in late 2023 and had been together ever since. She also opened up about their break on Allison Kuch’s Sunday Sports Club podcast on Dec. 1, noting that it was “beneficial” for both of them to have that time apart as it allowed her to “get serious” about what she wanted out of a relationship.
“I wanted to make sure if we got back together, it would be because we’re getting married,” she explained. “I needed to go through the process of mourning him not being in that world anymore [and] being on my own to be able to get clarity on whether or not this was for me.”
While the engagement “didn’t come as a surprise” to Sartain, she revealed in her TikTok that she was “very involved in the creation of the ring” and “there through the whole process.”
“I specifically asked him to [propose] in a very private setting,” she continued. “I don’t really react to things even if I know they’re coming … I wanted it to be in a setting where I didn’t have to think about my reaction. I could just react like I do and not be concerned about onlookers. I don’t want to put on a show, I just want to be connected … doing something we normally do on our normal routine.”
Sartain added that they “had our little moment” and then went back to “watching our show together” after the intimate proposal, “which was so perfect for me.” She said the moment made her feel “understood, heard and all those things you want to feel especially when you’re getting engaged.”
