Jessica Williams can’t help but share her admiration for Shrinking costar Harrison Ford.
The Emmy-nominated actress, 35, tells PEOPLE that although the 82-year-old actor’s busy schedule doesn’t permit much time for the costars to spend time together aside from filming, they do love shooting the AppleTV+ series together.
Just as Shrinking was wrapping season 2 production — and with only a couple of days of filming left — her costar asked her, “What’s your deal?” Williams finally got a little personal with the Hollywood icon, telling him some details of her life.
“It’s funny because it’s like coming from a place of love. I know he really likes and loves me,” she explains. “I can tell, I can see.”
She says it’s perfectly “okay” that the Indiana Jones star isn’t spending much quality time with her off-set. “We make each other laugh,” she says. “I like shooting with him, and he loves me, and he loves shooting with me.”
“He goes to do like a Marvel movie and Indiana Jones for seven months somewhere, you know, like, whatever,” she says with a laugh. In the past year, Ford has worked on Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Captain America: Brave New World, and Yellowstone prequel, 1923.
Daily Show alum Williams adds the renowned actor also likes bird-watching and flying planes. “I love that for him,” she jokes. Williams also says it’s “always fun” when she sees him and his wife, Calista Flockhart, at parties.
Ford isn’t the only Shrinking cast member that Williams has a good rapport with. She tells PEOPLE that part of the series’ success is the entire ensemble cast’s chemistry.
“It’s like everyone can work with each other,” she explains of her costars, Jason Segel, Ted McGinley, Michael Urie, Christa Miller and Lukita Maxwell.
Shrinking stars Segel as Jimmy Laird, a single dad grieving the sudden loss of his wife as he navigates his friendships with Gaby (Williams), Liz (Miller), Derek (McGinley), Brian (Urie) and Paul (Ford).
Williams also says that working with Segel, the show’s co-creator, is “really nice,” noting that he has her back “no matter what.”
She notes that she’s watched Segel throughout his storied career. “I was like, in high school and middle school watching [Judd] Apatow stuff,” she explains. “The school of Apatow is really awesome to me.”
Meanwhile, Segel has also celebrated Williams’ comedy style, comparing her to his frequent collaborator Paul Rudd. She admits that every time she hears that she blushes and gets “really embarrassed.”
“I don’t know if there’s a higher compliment to get from that guy,” she says. “It just doesn’t get any better. He’s worked with so many people, and he’s been doing this for a while… So it just means a lot.”
